As someone said, this is a closer type of move. ...for someone like John Rocker who comes in and wants to close things out with passion and even intimidation.

Does not fit even remotely with a starter.

Don't get me wrong, successful pitchers have to take the mound with a chip on their shoulders. This is a little more than that.

The same people lapping it up saying they love it are probably the same ones crying like bitches when the Baylor pitcher was being a douche the first few innings

I remember when LSU was half assing it in ttown one game and this gump pitcher stared down the dugout in inning 2, well he got shelled.

No need to motivate a team through theatrics that draw attention to oneself.

Yea, makes him look like a badass...against shitty teams.

I didn't see his arse staring down TCU batters. Let's see how that shite works in the SEC

I'm only 30. I don't think I'm old. In football and basketball I love that swag and passion. Baseball is different. Baseball is not a sport where you swing a big dick.

If you're a batter and stare at a homer or flip your bat, you get plunked. If you're a pitcher who stares people down after they get out, the baseball gods will get you back. It's just stupid and unnecessary.

Not to mention, Lange used to seem like a down to earth and cool guy. Coincidentally, that was when he was a stud and dominated.

If it's something that he feels he needs to do to be fired up then who are we to say he should change?

He could be the nicest guy off the field and by all accounts he is a good teammate. He is the first one out the dugout to shake hands with guys coming off the field. So on days he's pitching he thinks he needs to hate the players on the other team to get motivated. There is nothing wrong with that and as he gets older he might learn another way to motivate himself.

It's fine for a closer because they usually only see 6 batters max and they don't have the face the guys they stared down for quite some time if ever, not to mention the fact that they're in for the most emotional part of the game. As a starter he's just setting himself up for somebody to return the favor on their second time around and crank a HR, flip their bat, then stare him down around the bases. If it doesn't bother him/rattle him to get completely punked then that's cool and he should keep staring guys down, but I think most guys would want to avoid unnecessarily getting shown up and having the opposing dugout rub your nose in it. But again, it's his deal so if he doesn't mind it then let him be.

It's usually when he Ks to end an inning. Not a fan but I'm not paying attention to it really.

It's an interesting contrast with someone like Nola who was literally not phased by anything. Umps strike zone, cold weather, hot weather, rain, back to back hits... and he always behaved the same, looked the same, gave the same effort. Even keel.

I miss him so much.

I don't mind it , just as long as he can take it when a batter hits a 400 ft. Bomb off him .

It doesn't intimidate hitters, it motivates hitters. But he's our guy and has done remarkably well over his 2+ years here.
