There’s little to no chance LSU will let him go. The only way he won’t be here next year is if he retires.

No.

The new AD should conduct his own assessment of what the team has done since 2009. Because let's be honest, it's all about 'what have you done for me lately' in college sports.

He is almost 62. I could see him retiring in next few years. If we host a regional or come close he isn’t going anywhere.

I believe even if he were to miss the post season all together he wouldn't go anywhere.

I would guess no unless we somehow manage to miss the postseason altogether.

I don't really think he will be fired. Yes, the baseball program appears, at least on the surface, to be on a decline.

But, it was only a couple years ago that we played for the national championship. They've won the SEC tournament and outright SEC championship more than a few times since 2009's national championship team. When you take a step back from the emotions involved in fandom, it really is a little difficult to find many reasons to justify firing CPM.

Now, having said that, if CPM decides to retire at the end of this season I will be very happy for the program and for him. Go out on his terms and be known as the 2nd best head coach the program has ever had (that's undeniable, by the way). I just don't want him to stick around and then start to give the new AD good reasons to force him out. Let him go out on his terms and with dignity.

He can lose out and he’s still not getting fired this year.

But if we don’t get out of a regional again, all of a sudden Paul is on the hot seat next year.p, which didn’t think there was a chance in hell he would be on the hot seat in 2020 entering this year.

You're right. Maineri is above reproach and should never be held accountable for the shite he puts out.

Good talk.

Not this, maybe not even next year.

Here's why:
His contract is fully guaranteed on our end, through 2024

So basically, if we terminated him after NEXT season, he would be owed $1.125M x 4 years = $4.5M. Terminated after THIS season would be $5.625M in buyout.

We would have to get him to retire

What a stupid response. I never said he shouldn't be accountable. But reading threads on here lately, if I didn't know anything about LSU baseball I'd guess for sure the CPM would be gone next year. The reality of it is, the ONLY way he won't be here is if he retires.

Who the hell is saying that? I think people are just giving their honest opinion on what will happen to Mainieri after this season. Calm down.

Exactly... I do think Mainieri should seriously look at shuffling up is assistants to hire a legit hitting coach, but I have no idea who he'd even consider letting go to make that happen.

He'd be forfeiting a pretty penny by doing that. I had been thinking I wouldn't be surprised to see him retire, but I had also forgotten about his contract situation. He's under contract through the 2024 season to the tune of $1.125 mil/year.

From his body language during the games, I don’t think he gives a shite anymore. Hope he feels he needs to retire.

No doubt... I don't see stepping away right now. If he has a subpar year again next year, I could see there being some type of agreement that he retires/mutual parting of ways and still gets at least a portion of his contract paid out.

Trying to read too much into 5 second video snippets of a coach can be a futile effort. I simply look at the team's performance. In a mental game like baseball, a team is often a mirror of its coach and his attention to detail and what he preaches and how he motivates. Our play has been sporadic to say the least. That makes me question the attention to detail and focus of Mainieri and the staff.

No, but the fans are pissed. We want a coaching staff shakeup because change is needed. Injuries are part of the frustration but I can’t get over how every LSU pitcher has regressed from last season. CPM blames the players I blame the Pitching coach, Alan Dunn. Replace him this off-season at the minimum. They say Cain is a great recruiter but he has been way too conservative as a 3rd base coach.

I know CPM was banking on being able to hire a 3rd coach so he should already have people in mind.

On the bright side, having AD Woodward really alleviates my anxiety because I trust he will make a great hire...Whenever that time comes.
