I'm not ready to fire Woody yet. I don't really care about Baseball or Womens Bball that much, but what he's done with Baseball should be noted when evaluating him considering how big baseball is in Baton Rouge.

I think he should get one more football hire. BK was probably the safest choice during that cycle. Riley said No and I'd rather BK than Napier.

No defending the basketball hire or why the b-ball coach still has a job.

Any of us could have found a baseball coach that wanted to come to LSU. Easiest hire he made. Kelly was lazy hire for sure

Who the frick else was he going to hire in place of BK? Napier?

Give me a break. He went and spent $ and got the best candidate that had interest at the time and it's not working out. It happens.

Just academic idiots handing out these long term contracts with no performance requirements and escape clauses to end contract in schools favor if coach is abject failure like LSU and Auburn now have

Supply and demand.

LSU fans DEMANDED a “splash” hire championship coach. The SUPPLY of those guys is limited.

Kelly didn’t NEED to leave ND to coach a power program at a high salary. LSU NEEDED a HC and the fans demanded excellence. Well, when that is the negotiating position of each side, the coach gets to name his terms. No coach or agent would be dumb enough to agree to “performance incentives” or a low buyout in that scenario

If you want the school to have all of the negotiating leverage then hire a coach who isn’t in high demand (kind of like the guy the fanbase demanded be fired 4 years ago). Just don’t get angry when he doesn’t have the championship pedigree you require.

That’s not just football. It’s life. People in high demand can leverage that demand into highly favorable contracts. Welcome to the free market

He owns this contract- either raise the $$$$ for the buyout or he should be fired - 10yr contracts should never be made for this reason, same at aTm, now its a trend. He did make some good hires , but he is 2-2 for major hires- that is not good enough for an AD

He needs to go. If we can’t fire Kelly, surely we can fire Woodward for hiring Kelly and basically destroying the program.

tha
You people refuse to hear this because all of you are stupid but that is nothing new.

Yes Woody selected Kelly because he ran the search and that is who he brought to the board and TAF. But Kelly never gets hired without approval of the board and TAF because that is who signs the check. Yes Woody cannot make the next hire, but he probably will because he is too deeply connected to be fired. So you can keep sky screaming about Woody when he is just the face of this. The board has to sign off on all of this. You dumb asses need to realize that Woody makes no move without approval the those writing the checks.

You don’t get it. It happens, but it doesn’t have to. He was blindly following the market and gave out a huge guaranteed contract with no guarantee of results. Coming off the back of two buyouts.

What special skill does it take for him to give a candidate everything he wants? His job is to protect the AD and school’s interests. We have the benefit of hindsight to see he failed

A bold move would have been hiring a coordinator at a lower guaranteed cost. Like many ADs they started with the money first (top of market) and then see who would accept it. The focus was on the hire, not the results.

Giving a 60-year-old a ten year contract guaranteed was dim witted. Woodward needs to fall on his sword.

Think about this, does winning one women’s bball title worth a loss of $32 million in that time frame?

That is the negative revenue of women’s basketball over that timeframe as they lose $8 million per year and this is before revenue sharing.

But Woodward doesn’t care. It’s not his money. It wasn’t at A&M and is not at LSU.

I enjoy LSU baseball, but I am also aware that only a handful of schools give a shot about the sport much like WBB and it is quite easy with enough money to be good in the sport especially riding on the history that Bergman put for this program.

You wouldn’t have had to give Napier a 10 yr contract and the result , IMHO would have been better , with LSU money .

Again, we are seeing in real time that this was a bad contract. Buying him out is too expensive, and there is no mechanism to demand results.

On a board full of irrational fans, most of whom have no idea what the function of an AD is supposed to be other than hiring a coach, I would expect a broad spectrum of opinions, much of which would be driven by the state of the football program.

The Football program is The Golden Goose that funds the entire Athletic program. If the Golden Goose isn’t functioning properly then the entire athletic program suffers.

Of course we all know that there are numerous functions that the AD serves other than hiring and firing coaches. However, with that said, having the appropriate coach in place of the golden goose is paramount in having a successful athletic department.

I would if he called BK in on the carpet Monday morning and told him you this next game to show some life or your arse is fired. But I dream..
