He was 100% right. That is why the '92 and '09 championships are and will remain among the greatest of my lifetime, as the '61 and '73 championships were for my Dad (before he added '92 and '09 to his own list).
The rest are awesome, but you can't appreciate them in the middle of the run that is occurring. The expectations of excellence are unsustainable and take away from enjoyment of the games.
In 2010, 2013, and 2019, when Bama was eliminated from real NC contention, honest Bama fans will admit, there was disappointment but almost a relief that remaining games (bowls) were more enjoyable simply from a standpoint of being less stressful thinking of impacts to championships. Some of those worked out well and some were arse kickings received, but it was much more enjoyable watching without the stress.
It absolutely takes lows to best enjoy the highs and make memories that last.

the description of the gump fans was the best i have ever heard in my life as a lifelong Tiger fan.
