How old are you?
Do you even Faulk/Bradie/Lawrence??? (not to mention Turner & Alexander)
Or the dominant groups from the 70’s & 80’s??? ANY group with Capone or Brooks could be considered among the greatest.

Sorry. I meant Fulton. I checked my post several times and still not notice the obvious error.

2016 was the best LB Corp ever at LSU- Beckwith and Riley both had 90+ tackles.
In 1981, Al Richardson had 150 tackles. Lawrence Williams had 144. And Rydell Melancon had 10 sacks. The 81-82 LB unit was insane... and probably not the best LB corps of the 80s.
1986 had Michael Brooks (arguably the best LB in LSU history, though he got hurt midseason), Eric Hill, Ron Sancho, Nicky Hazard, and Oliver Lawrence (LSU's single season sack leader until Key).
Our 1980's LB units were terrific. And there was even a great tradition in the late 60s to the early 70s in which LSU had an All-American at LB nearly every year, from Geroge Bevan stretching to Warren Capone.
The 2016 LB corps was very good, but it was nowhere near the best in history. that said, I think this year's unit can be right up there with 1981 and 1986. This could be an exceptional unit.

Jacob Phillips will be a beast. Dude was all over the place in the spring game

Debo Jones was unproven going into 2015. Duke Riley was unproven going into 2016. Devin White was unproven going into 2017. Pardon us for being excited for some real LB depth and a defensive coordinator who has a knack for developing LBs.
How do you know there is "real LB depth"? There is POTENTIALLY real LB depth. We THINK there is real LB depth. But other than White, none of those guys have done anything of note at LSU to justify a definitive statement that LSU has a great group of LB's. The good thing is we should know the answer to that question by the end of this year.
I'm not saying those guys aren't good. It's just that I'm not ready to crown them "great" with virtually no evidence backing that up other than hope and hype (again, aside from White). And if we are being fair, Chavis had a reputation of developing LB's both before and at LSU. He had 4 All-American LB's at UT. At LSU he had 4 LB's become all conference players (Sheppard, Minter, Barrow, Alexander)
Baseless preseason hyperbole is just silly

Jacob Phillips is going to be the next great linebacker
I completely agree with your whole post but a lot of ppl forget about Tyler Taylor whom imo outplayed Phillips last year. Point is we are absolutely loaded for the future.

They are gonna be good, throw in Tyler Taylor also. Lots of depth, just hope for health and progression in abilities and understanding aranda's scheme and the sky is the limit.

The quality depth that we have, will cover for injuries or trouble with schemes. I’m excited for the group.
I’m impressed with the receipts as well.

If we stay healthy and our offense can do it’s best to be somewhat productive. Not record breaking stats but just score and counter the opponents scoring. Our offense CAN NOT be one dimensional. We have to have a little pass game compliment the run game. Our defense should be top 5 IF they stay healthy..

No mention of Tyler Taylor?

Our LB strength is an indictment on Chavis. As good as of an in-game coach as he was, he was a sub-par recruiter especially at the LB position. He thought Kenny Young was too fat, didn't offer Debo until the 11th hour, and targeted guys like Ronnie Feist.
DA took over a depleted LB position and quickly made a weakness a strength, arguably the greatest strength on the team.
