Considering where LSU is coming from the last 2 seasons yes 10 wins would be a huge accomplishment. Also having been manhandled the last 2 games makes ending the season with a win in the bowl important. A loss wouldn't be the end of the world but a win would be a huge spring board into the offseason.

In a coach's first season, it's something to be proud of.

no, a 10 win season isn’t what is used to be.

Back in the day, when there was only an 11 game schedule, no conference championship games, and far fewer bowl games, a 10 win season was truly special.

Not anymore.

For some fans, 10 wins will mean something because of how the 10 wins came. In pre-season LSU was expected to win about 6 games and "over-achieved". To other fans, 10 wins won't mean as much considering how we barely matched up with Bama in a down year for their program and was severely under-matched with UGA, the new king of the SEC.

Everyone has their own perspective. To me, how much this season means boils down to whether or not you've seen enough this year to make you enthused about the direction of the program OR do you feel the jury is still out on CBK.

Losing that TAMU game really put a damper on this season for me. Not only did it directly knock us out of contention for a shot at the playoffs, it was a glimpse of what TAMU could be with a more focused effort.

Probably not, but I still want us to win 10 games

Sure, it does, double digit numbers look better and with it you have 3 loses versus 4.

10-3
or
9-4

It means a lot for the future of the program. Heading into the off-season having accomplished that will give this team a lot of confidence. The fans may not feel the same way, but who cares?

If we go from top 5 to

Lose to 4-7 A&M by 2 scores
Lose to UGA by 20
Lose to Purdue
Unranked

Then yeah that's a big fricking deal

Not anymore since they are playing 12, 13, 14 games unlike years ago.

Not what it used to when there were 10, then 11, and now 12-game schedules.

10 wins used to mean "elite" status - 10-0, 10-1.

Now 10 wins - 10-2, 10-3, 10-4, means you are in the upper echelon of college football, but not necessarily "elite."

That, IMO, is the difference today.

Well they got their arse whipped by A&M and are playing in the toilet bowl. Kind of hard to get excited.

I’ll get excited when JD announces he is putting his name in the draft.

Well said, brother.

I've been watching LSU football longer than most Rant posters have been alive. Hell I've been watching LSU football longer than most ranter's father's have been alive and every victory is sweet. 10 victories is still a milestone, much like a 1,000 yard rushing season.
So enjoy this season instead of being a Grinch.

bad example, because when a team plays 12, 13, 14, or more games, the 1000 yard rushing total means less.

It's just about the math.

Now sure, 1000 rushing yards, just like 10 wins, is a nice total. But you have consider the context.

Back when I was a kid and there were only 11 games, no conference championships, and only 15 bowl games, hitting 10 wins or 1000 yards rushing was much more meaningful.

Again, 10 wins and 1000 yards is still very good, but the increased number of games has diluted that accomplishment. It just has.

Averaging 10+ is what every head coach at LSU should do. So yes, it’s an important benchmark.

Great way to out the O supporters. I used to think 8 wins was guaranteed at LSU and after the last two years with O I realized an 8 win season is good a 10 win season is special
