re: Do you think there will be a kicker battle between Ramos and Burrell

Doesn’t matter who the kicker is if we don’t block the opposing line, snap the ball correctly, and execute the catch of the snap down to putting the ball on the ground.
Poor Ben Bordelon got absolutely pile driven into the backfield on several kick attempts. His technique was terrible as he was reaching for the outside guy each time. As he did it numerous times, I would assume it was the protection concept, which if is indeed the case, is abysmal.

Ramos has been fairly reliable and he now has a lot of experience. Kicker may be the most mentally taxing position on the team. It’s the only position where you play only 5-7 plays a game and everyone EXPECTS you to be perfect. Many times the kicker sits on the bench until he has to come in to the most stressful situation of the game.
There are many guys who have the physical ability to be a kicker. It’s the mental aspect that separates guys from the pack. It’s hard to make a change from a guy who you know can handle the job…even if it is in a somewhat limited capacity

Ramos was getting praised as one of our biggest weapons until he had one bad game.
Ramos is the kicker until he’s gone.
Ramos is the kicker until he’s gone.

We can revive the "Corbello for Heisman" campaign!

Word is Burrell has a big leg but has accuracy problems

They’ll have a competition in the spring and Ramos will be the best kicker on the team.
I’m pulling for Aidan Corbello to have a good spring. He’s got accuracy and range.
The competition hinges on live operation and scrimmage kicks…and those are much more difficult to time well. Ramos does it at a high level. Can’t imagine him losing the job.
Thanks for that Gaston. Ramo is a very good kicker, people here are just full of nonsense sometimes.
I'm pulling for Cobello as well, I remember his dad kicking at LSU. Of course, this board would have crapped all over him, too.

Definitely need to get Burrell to handle long field goals

Ramos missed 1 out of 119 PATs the last two years. And he’s hit 80% FG the last two years with his longest at 50 yds and this includes snap and blocking issues in that number. He’s money under 50 yds.

Ramos can’t even hit 50 yarders. I’ve been saying we need a new kicker since Brian Kelly became the coach
No offense to Ramos, but if you can't kick a 50 yarder these days......you shouldn't be at a premiere program. Hell, you had a guy from Va Tech last night nail a 60 yarder.

Ramos should do all PAT’s as he missed only one all season in the last game of the season due to bad blocking.
That was his first XP miss since November of 2022. He is 173/176 at LSU on XPs.

The biggest and best high school ranking service does an invitational camp (~50 kickers) that started today where they chart you 6 kicks across the field from 48 yards into the wind and 6 kicks from 56 with the wind…on back to back days…so 24 kicks. The kid who won it last year (will kick for Arkansas next year) made 21.
Think about that shite. How would LSU’s kicker fare? (No kicker on our staff from this year or next year ever attended)

LSU had the worst kicking game in the sec punter and kicked need to be upgraded!

You would be wrong about this, he was 1 of 2 this season from 50 yards. But 50 is probably his limit. He isn't a bad kicker, most of the issues have been from the snap, hold or blocking it hasn't been him. He isn't special but he is solid.
I would like them to let Burrell try one from about 60-65 yards.

You have to kick the ball between the uprights. Just because you can kick touchbacks doesn’t mean you are accurate. Completely different mechanics.

His form looks a ton better than it did in high school, though it’s tough to see exactly how wide he is.
Ideally as his form gets better he can have a completely end over end ball flight that doesn’t track right to left like that.
He looks to be coming along great though. Thanks for posting.

But Burrell has a monster leg. Ramos is average, but good kickers these days need to be able to hit from 50+. Ramos can’t, Burrell can.
Or....hear me out on this...Ramos can be the short-FG guy and Burrell can kick the ones from 50+. It's been done before on the college level.

Ramos isnt bad but he doesnt have the fg job locked down by any stretch and he knows that.. We do have need for improvement and there should be an open competition this offseason for the job.

I feel like the main reason that everyone's opinion of Ramos has soured is because of all the bad snaps/bad holds we had this year. He was pretty reliable when the other people did their job. Although I do admit that he doesn't have a strong leg compared to most other college kickers.
Peyton Todd as holder has been an interesting choice. Is it not still common practice to use a backup QB as holder? Maybe I’m just behind the times.

On one hand I can see the argument to use another specialist if he can do it, as it allows that group (P, PK, and LS) to stay together in practice without having any of them participating in other offensive drills. On the other hand, it seems like a QB would be generally better at handling snaps plus the added ability to run a play on a fake FG.
