who got beat on the 3rd and 19? don't think it was him but cant remember. pass rush was terrible on that play so it was probably their fault

By that time in the game we had like 3 people in who’s names I didn’t even recognize...

Rumor has it he had the flu before the game. This is coming from someone pretty close to Stingley.

Don't fault Stingly. Smith is a NFL receiver, Stingly is just a freshman.

Not if he's a good corner. And he's going to be a great one. Even great players give up plays against other greats.

He is a very talented TRUE FRESHMAN. Same thing with rookies in the NFL, they need experience.

Did Surtain get burnt at all in man coverage?

Well, I watched Top Billin's breakdown and there was one play where Surtain was beat on the first step (I think Chase) - Burrow went to Jefferson over the middle, but if he had recognized how badly Surtain was beat, it would have a been a long gainer (or TD) outside the hash.

Surtain played better than Diggs. Bama's corners aren't their corners of old, the linebackers are young and they played scared on defense.

I give them credit for not quitting, but that was all their offense. I don't think there is any question the Top 2 offenses in the nation played on Saturday night.

Once it was 26-13, the outcome was never really in doubt, although we did make it unnecessarily dramatic right there at the end.

And Delpit wasn't 100% either - he didn't have nearly his usual closing speed in coverage.

Bama wasn't 100% healthy either.

Even playing as poorly as we did on offense in the 3rd quarter and defense in the 4th quarter, we handled Bama - not necessarily dominated them for 60 minutes, but for extended stretches of the game we did, even when we weren't hitting explosive plays (which we did 7 or 8 to their 3).

He's a true Frosh that locked up Smith or whoever his assignment was for the majority of the game other than the 2 bombs (both questionable coaching moves) and a few underneath routes (one that Tua mis-timed because of Lawrence's pressure).

He was in press-man against a seasoned, 3rd year collegiate WR and soon-to-be NFL WR. Sting is a true freshman. He forced a ton of underneath routes with his great man-coverage.

D. Smith may be the most complete WR on Bama's team despite Jeudy's route running being better and NFL ready. Devonta Smith is their strongest receiver, has the best hands on the team and can run and track the deep ball better than 99% of collegiate WRs that I've watched. He seemingly just gets past DBs with ease all of the time and finds the ball efficiently in the open deep area. An example is the game winning catch against UGA's secondary in the championship game when Smith was a freshman.

He will face similar talent against Clemson or Ohio State if LSU plays them in the CFP, and he will be in press-man a lot against those WRs.

There's not a single CB worth a damn that doesn't bounce back from getting beat and bring the confidence on every play, and Sting won't be any different!!! He plays against one of the best WR groups in practice everyday, and has been pretty awesome all year.

I don't think he has any reason to doubt himself. Tua and Smith are tops and they will make those perfect plays to make you look bad. As a Freshman phenom, 24 won't win every target especially against those guys. I'm sure he was pissed over his play but guys like him use that to get better, not to sit and sulk.

There is really no such thing as LOCK down corner who never gets burned. If you play corner against good players you will always have plays where the offense makes a perfect play against you. That doesn't mean you're trash, it means you aren't playing in a video game.

Unless he reads the Arden Key book to getting drafted, he will be the most sought after defensive player in 2 yrs when he goes to the draft.

Yeah they shouldn’t have been in man but that doesn’t change the fact that he got smoked

Maybe he was expecting over the top help from delpit.
You never know. But somebody had the wrong call/coverage.

Bo way we were in a hard press man to man with no blitz and no help over the top, while trying to protect a lead.

If so, aranda is a Moron of epic proportion.

This is not true. Devonta legitimately beat him on two plays. Every other ball was contested.

And that's what happens when two greats compete.

No,

Stingley is an amazing talent. He will be fine and he toke notes and will learn a lot from Devonta schooling him on few plays.

He didn’t get exposed all game long. Of course what comes to mind is the two long passes the first one as everyone said he was talking to the sidelines and the second one was on playcalling. He also made some nice plays that you may have not recognized. Now I also did see get absolutely worked by good route running. Let’s not forget that Patrick Peterson was left alone on an island in coverage as a freshman and was exposed plenty of times. Other times he looked brilliant. Playing ball as a freshman in the SEC is not easy.

Please remember this is a 18 year old kid that is facing seasoned NFL wide outs. Thanks.

DS24 will learn from this game and be a better player because of it.

You take away the two bombs, which i really don't put on Stingley, and Smith had 5 catches for 63 yards.
A true freshman did just fine on the NFL receivers he was covering.

I hope not. Overthinking will make him timid.

He's doing great. It's just one bad game
