Or is he thinking ‘when I get my next 5 million after the government takes their cut, I’m really gonna be successful!’

I’m sure he feels pretty incompetent right now. At least he should. But, we’re just spoiled I guess.

He will convince himself that he didn’t have the money Kiffin does for players and that’s most of the difference. He is too arrogant to accept he is an inferior coach.

I disagree.
He’s got such an ego that I do think he wanted to win a natty and shut the doubters up (for his legacy, didn’t care about LSU).
But he also thought he was taking a job that required zero maintenance and he could just show up on Saturday and do the same shite he was doing against bad ACC teams and service academies.

This is the answer. After Lane wins a natty and Kelly is the only one in the last 5 coaches to not win one, it's going to be because LSU didn't give him what he needed to win one.

He can convince himself of that all he wants but LsU gave him everything he needed to be successful. Notre Dame made him soft and fat.
