Sure, we keep using the same old wash, rinse, and repeat system that has been failing for years. You have to hand it to the good old boys; they continue to rob universities without a ski mask. And as for the desperate fans, they don’t mind as long as it’s someone who makes them feel comfortable.

Ed O -17.5 mill buyout
BK - 54 mill buyout
Lane - ?? mill buyout

Not my money, so yeah. I want him.

Lane has been with some of the best programs in college football. He worked with Saban. He has seen what works and doesn't work. He's been both a highly regarded assistant and a head coach.

He would hit the ground running, already knowing what he needs to do as LSU's head coach. That puts him miles ahead of any assistant coach or coordinator we might settle for.

Name a coach with playoff wins who will leave their current school. I'll wait.

I don’t want any coach for this much.

Give me a hungry coach for $5mil with incentives and spend the extra money on players.

3 yr contract @ 15 mil per.
Any buyout is null if he loses more than 2 games/yr.

No. This is not the era for overpaid coaches. There is a finite amount of donor dollars. Until they fix it, this is the era of bribing players.

We also just dropped a huge bag on players this year and will end up with the same result if we win out. If we go 1-1, we ultimately had worse results with double the payroll

In the NIL era, I don't think spending all your money on the coach is wise. I'd rather a good coach with an incentive ladden $7-8mil/yr salary and the rest goes towards spending on elite talent.

It’s not a zero-sum game. We are upping our NIL AND getting an elite coach for top-dollar.

Or would you rather an up and comer that is hungry for 7 mill?

Which up and comer you think is accepting a $7 mil contract? The smallest Salary we're going to offer is most likely in the 9-10 range. Just fyi.

If the boosters are for it then we should be fine with it. Boosters and fans want a natty

yea, it's not our money - but we can still opine on whether it's wise to commit a massive sum to a coach. We just saw it with Kelly. And even though it's not my money, there's a finite amount that donors are willing to commit since they'll eventually feel like they're chumps getting taken by LSU giving out fat contracts.

Maybe it makes more sense to pay a coach less, load the contract with incentives, limit the buyout, and use that extra donor money to buy players.

Once bitten, twice shy, you know.

Pay the new coach a base of $2M and $500K for each win. Another $1M for the SEC Championship and another for the CFP and each win. $5M for a National Championship.
