Property taxes weren’t a thing until the mid 1800’s. You could eliminate 50% of the federal gov’t and 25% of the state gov’t and the average person would never even notice.
At least with a sales tax, it is consumption based meaning it’s voluntary and applies equally to all consumers. The opposite of property taxes.

The Egyptians had property taxes like 5,000 years ago

1. They aren’t voluntary if you tax necessities
2. Equally at about a 30% rate on your goods

Sorry, dude. My home is valued at right under 500k (I paid half that 20 years ago). Prop tax is 1100 per year. And I bitch about that.
Maybe I shouldn't bitch so much.

1. According to the State and local government you are $250,000.00 richer even though the only way you can have that money at your disposal is to sell your house.
2. The tax is levied against property owned by people on fixed incomes so they are forced to sell.
3. Any other income like that is taxed one time, the property is taxed evey year.
4. If the property goes down in value, they do not refund the taxes.

There are often caps on assessed value, regardless of appraised value

Most states have caps and increased exemptions for seniors

Wrong

Taxes are levied every year. If the value of the property goes down, your tax goes down.

Boomer who got all the benefits of people paying property tax in his town when he was young now wants to tell everyone else to frick off now that he's old?
I'm shocked!

I'm sure working parents don't want to pay for that old fart's Socialsm Security either.
I know I don't.
I know I don't.

To be fair, I wanted to tell them to frick off when I was young, too.

Having good school and government services around you keeps you from living in the ghetto whether you “use” them or not.
to genuinely imply this is what keeps us from living in the ghetto is astonishing. demographics create ghettos. the hollers of Kentucky give kids a better education than a public school in louisiana that spends more than 20k per student. i’ll grant you that it’s easier to assume property taxes=good school, but the reality on the ground is every single one of those dollars is getting set on fire and accomplishes nothing. except paying the daycare costs of feral animals

My issue is that property taxes are based in n milages. A person with a $70k shack and a person with a $300k middle class home are going to essentially use the same services. Property taxes should be based on a flat fee.
Here here!
My home has almost doubled in value in 5 years. Why does that unrealized gain mean my property taxes double? Makes no sense.

Lol..I spent the last year working in and around Pikeville, KY.
The people are barely functionally retarded, and those hollers are just as bad as any inner city ghetto hellhole.

Do you live in fricking Egypt? Only 33 states had property taxes as of 1900.

Every consumption tax is avoidable. All of em. Just depends on how resourceful you are.

Property taxes “have been a thing” since essentially the founding of civilization. You are either too stupid to know that or too stupid to convey what you mean. Don’t know which is worse.

Under most true consumption taxes even raw materials are taxed. It would be quite literally impossible to avoid them. Somehow, you’ve said something dumber than your original statement. A true feat

And this is why we are doomed. Bootlickers think that without Amazon or the grocery store, life itself couldn’t exist.
