No, we really aren't.

Our offense will have unproven players at every skill position next year unless Diggs gets another year.

Our defense still has a functional retard running it, and we have lost MANY solid recruits because of his inability to coach. I honestly don't blame them. Our best defensive player is at risk of being completely schemed out again.

Special teams is average, at best.

Unless we have a competent offense, we are looking at 5-6 losses next year with House in the booth.

If we didn't have a Heisman trophy QB this year, we would be lucky to win 4 games.

Shockingly despite how offended you got what he said was perfectly reasonable. Kelly knows the overall team would be in better position next year. And what they were actually saying was that he knows the QB will be Nuss and doesn't think that will restrict him from competing for a ship. So it shows the faith he has in Nuss along with a number of other things he has done. Despite the clowns here who dislike Nuss for the dumbest of reasons.

So because Les leaned too heavily on the run game, this coaching staff must do the same?

It's a joke, bro, but people on here are pushing for a Les Miles-style offense based around RBs.

Maybe, just maybe when you know how to pass, being able to run is a good thing and slows the pass rush and helps out a new starting QB.

Running is fine, but it creates a defined ceiling if it's your primary threat. And without JD, our RB rushing and system is going to have issues and has to be completely revamped.

They are still going to sling it with Nussmeie

I doubt it. I don't know if we'll have the receiving talent in addition to Nuss's limitations. It's not a criticism, just more a statement of where out talent is at.

No way, esp if we lose some impact defensive players.

Lack of mobility for one.

Aggressive style is the other.

The 2nd can potentially be fixed. The first cannot.

He doesn't lack mobility. Just because he's not a runner like JD does not mean he isn't mobile within the pocket or able to scramble. His "aggressive" style isn't a known thing at all. He's never started a game and continually making broad statements about him based on selective situations is dumb. Of course you're going to be aggressive when you are either trying to audition to replace the starter or trying to come back from down double digits late in games.

So, in your mind, just on his word, this defense goes from, what, about 100th overall to a Top 30, Top 40 defense in a year?

Denbrock will have to redo our gameplan to fit Nuss.
All he has to do is call less QB run which a large percentage of Daniels runs weren’t called runs. They were him not seeing anyone open or no one being open and running.

Theres no need to completely redo the offense. Also Nuss has the ability to scramble. He’s not Daniels quick but he can scramble.

Somebody is loaded on this board but it is not the LSU offense… we go backward next year with a potential Aggie 7-5 or 6-6 season staring us in the face…. Also have a pretty challenging schedule.

Oh good grief are you SERIOUSLY trying to imply that Kelly thinks he has a better chance at winning a natty with Nuss and thought he couldn’t win it with the GREATEST season of all time by JD5?

No, not at all. But when did he say this, wasnt it before the season started? At that point the new and improved JD had not been revealed to us yet.

All I am saying is what I recall the coach saying.

What do you think he meant when he said that?

I don't expect it to be the primary threat, I expect it to be a high ypc run game, though with homerun threats and very good power backs. I expect the Oline to take the next step in the rebuild and to be a top 5 line nationally if they solidify one guard spot and center.

I also expect at least one of the soph WRs to emerge along with at least one proven transfer that will be a true #1.

Again, next year is not the year, but the offensive staff has proven that they are elite and the players are coming. I'm saying they are close because if the right moves are made, it will come together quickly on defense and then the sky is the limit. We could soon see LSU be consistently elite on both sides of the ball. Or they could go cheap and hold on to this defensive staff for a couple more years before making a change. We'll see.

I didn't mean a complete redo. Nuss has a cannon for an arm and he can take the top off a defense. Bk and Denbrock love the passing game and especially the deep pass so that's not going away. I just think with our deep and experienced OL and the dynamic RB's we have and coming in we can do more ball control. Of course our D will have to be improved to do that. I have a lot of faith BK will improve our D.

You people have very short memories! Nuss almost won the starting job the last two years people. He’s going to be one of the better SEC QBs next year. We have a great OL, RBs, TE’s and WR’s (need to add experience).

If they can fix this defense in the offseason, however they do it, and can turn it into a top 25-30 type of defense in scoring, TFL and TO’s then we can easily have a better season than what we just had.

He’s not incorrect, we are very close. We could also improve ST’s to help the team win. Things can change quickly with the right changes and those changes all work out. It’s 50/50 that happens imo. The offense will not take a huge step back. It will absolutely be different but there are multiple ways to win games and be effective on offense. Our OC and HC know exactly how to operate these things.

Our fans are something else. LSU has the talent on offense to sustain this success with a few pieces added to the skill positions from the portal. We going to be just fine.

That didn't seem to matter to Alabama and Georgia in 2023.

Well, the next time LSU reaches a championship game without a 4th or 5th year returning starter at QB we can have this discussion. Until then, I don’t think you can compare LSU to Georgia/Alabama in this respect

LSU will go from 46.4 ppg to probably 32-34 ppg.

That's a crazy decrease.

If BK whiffs on his next DC, this team is headed to a 7-5 record, and possibly worse.
