Just a heads up to those who may go to the Outback Bowl. The Busch Gardens area is hell on earth. Stay as far away as possible from any hotels that are in that area.

Tampa is one of those cities that has some really nice areas and some really bad ones. Choose wisely.

Doesn't that go for most cities?

Anyways - thanks for the heads up!

Good lookin' out. There will likely be a Tampa Visitor's guide thread and be sure and add this there.

Siesta Key, Sarasota area, is an hourish away from the stadium. I highly recommend it!

I worked Tampa as a State Parole Officer. That area is frightening.

South Tamps is really nice but, I'm not sure what the hotel situation would be there. The downtown area is basically dead after 5 PM.

I would personally recommend staying at Clearwater Beach. It is really nice and an easy drive. I was in Tiger Band back in the 80's when we played Syracuse in the Hall of fame Bowl (Outback) We stayed at the Holiday Inn at Clearwater Beach and it was great. I would expect the same thing this time around too.

Agree- Busch Gardens is an awesome park but don't pick a hotel in that area. I recommend a hotel in Harbor Island - my favorite is Marriott Waterside , but the Westin and Embassy Suites are great too. The location is very safe, clean, and gets you close to Bayshore Blvd ( great stroll along the water ). Harbor island also has a streetcar stop that gets you to Ybor City which has all types of bars. Harbor island is a very small island in south Tampa. Sadly , Tampa stadium isn't within walking distance of any nice hotels. You'll get all kinds of suggestions for parking, but I like parking 1/4 mile from the stadium at Hillsborough Community College ( HCC)- lots of parking spaces.
