Read the whole post. The actual details were given. 38th round with $550k.

Not too bad.
Yeah, I went back and read it after I posted. Not too bad at all. I've never heard of that much of a signing bonus after the 5th round

I wasn't even a doubter... but "Excuse us!" It seems also to prove you don't know as much as you claimed to know about your close personal friend, kid (player?).

BOOM he was off a round and it was only $550k. DJ IS COMING BACK!!!!!!!!

Jeff Samardzija got $5.25 mill in the 5th round

Samardzjia was a completely different case though. There was a big uncertainty about him maybe going to try the NFL ranks out. That is why he fell to the fifth round, otherwise he is a lock for the first.

In addition, don't discount the "home town boy" thing. There is a massive Notre Dame following up here in Chicago (I think its only a few hours away). So a premium could have been paid for that too.

link? That is hard to believe

No its not. Actually happens often. Teams will draft a guy maybe in round 20-30 and take a chance that they can talk em out of going to school. Exactly what goes on with the ones that everybody wonders "why did he fall that far; he was hearing he would be taken top 5 rounds"

OK guys here is the deal...Jared was projected as a top 3-round pick...he got some bad advice and word got out he wouldn't settle for less than 750 large which scared away a lot of clubs...He was an early signee with Missouri and was all set to go to school..He was playing Legion last summer and pitched lights out and the Phillies loved what they saw...They had money to throw at one or two "slot buster" kids. After seeing him in the summer they decided he was one of those kids. It happens sometimes that way...However, very rarely do u see a kid sign in the 2nd round that is a questionable sign like Jared..

If you want to know his potential, he texted me about a month or so ago and told me he struck out A-Rod in an extended spring training game...

He's a great kid. Iwas his hitting coach in high school where he broke Jay Buhner's school hitting record with a .506 batting average...

That's the story.

My brother is a major league scout for the Giants, and he told me that whenever a low round pick gets a healthy signing bonus, there are extenuating circumstances that caused him to be drafted in a low round...like an extremely tough agent,... already signed with a good college and parents advising that's where he's going, but doesn't,... possible medical problems and then he is cleared, etc.
