I think just the way he operates commands respect. Kids can see that is a grown man defense.

Jury is still out on Jones but I wonder if some of these kids might still be a little scarred from last year

I don’t think that title brought any extra responsibility. I think it was just a contract chip

Aranda as a DC the last 2 years is prob worth 3 or 4 wins that ended up being losses, though

hey ponamsky, you were there, was Aranda more in charge than we were let on?

Again, I’m not ponamsky. No idea why you’re going after me.

Mickey Joseph is assistant head coach currently, do you think he’s making decisions for the program?

perhaps you are not understanding the nature of the OP?

I am wondering if Aranda was far more of a Co-HC and had more power and control over the organization than we knew at the time and we underestimated his influence. Since he has left, we get Mickey Joseph as Associate HC for a completely different set of reasons (more like the traditional financial considerations) and CEO declaring publicly he is going to "do it his way" this year.

Was he not "doing it his way" before? What is "his way" now?

I guess it's possible his defense definitely was lacking most of 2019...but I seriously doubt he had any control of the program other than the defense. To think otherwise is really dumb and reaching

How has the defense performed since he left?

based on the current state of the program, I’m ruling nothing out

I think Aranda kept the defensive side of the ball good and functional.

And then Joe Brady in an offenseivr scheme that made the offense good and functional.

So combined it was a functioning team.

Without Aranda or Brady we’re having serious issues. Maybe Jones or Peetz would be solid coordinators but they’re all new, and they maybe aren’t controlling everything else as well.

Was Aranda also keeping everything held together in the organization as well from the Associate HC position?

Once Aranda left after the 2019 NC season, CEO's ego and chaotic management style were left un-checked, and we are seeing the program unraveling as a result

All of this sounds good but it is far far from the truth. Aranda’s departure was really bad for the defense but it stops there. He was doing nothing outside of coaching linebackers and scheming.

You can believe what you want. It was told to me by someone who worked directly for him. It’s not a knock on the guy. You just need to drop the idea that he was the man behind the curtain holding everything together.

But it should not be that hard to find another coach who can do the same. There are a lot of high quality assistants to be had. You just have to make the right hire. It happens every year to most teams.

Problem is NO coordinator at the top of his game would never come in to work for O. Aranda was already here. The other coordinator hires have been shite. Ensminger deserves a ton of credit for pushing O to hire Brady and O deserves credit for listening to Ensminger.

Sadly, it’s basically impossible to catch lightning in a bottle twice. That’s why the coordinator hires are people who have called little to no plays. No big time coordinator wants to work for this fool especially after the Canada debacle
