Are you trying to say they won the championship before the season was complete?

Not as consistently as what's happening now.

The pitcher for Nicholls was/is a relief pitcher. Not a starter

I’d rather lose a midweek game trying to experiment with different guys in the field and lineup, than lose an SEC series. Midweek games mean nothing except experimenting with different guys, to see if they could maybe get more playing time. It’s February everyone, just chill.

All Championship seasons for Skip - instate loses:
91 - NW, Tulane twice, McNeese
93 - NW, SW, McNeese
96 - NW twice
97 - UNO twice, NE
00 - McNeese twice

Seems pretty standard baseball procedure.

So our hitters are facing their best and they are facing our 4th, 5th, 6th best.
I agree that mid-week games are ideal to see what we have with pitching. However, the Pitcher is only one player.

What about the other 8 players on the field?

"It obviously was not a very good performance for us," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri.

I want to hear from hitting coach, Eddie Smith.
What are his thoughts?

Your favorite current coach loses midweek games too.

Nobody doubts that. What I doubt is that they lose as many midweek games against vastly inferior talent as we do.

Dude.... STFU, we’ve been passed up by Vamdy, USCe, Arkt, UF and MSU. I’m sorry we’re not saying go 5 for 10 like skip but there is a HUGGE gap to where skip had us and where paw has us.

Comparing Skip to Pulmonary is ludicrous. Hand grenades and marshmallows.

Go check out Vandy from a couple years back. Last year Vandy was really good but still lost to a couple crappy teams as well. You see, LSU fans just assume we are the only ones doing it. Google gives us information right at our fingertips.

I thought the Nicholls announcer last night said that he was actually a reliever.

I remember Skip telling some Nervous Nellie about games like last night.
Anyone who has competed in sports knows there will be days when the best can't compete and days where pitchers like Theriot, are almost unhittable.

In 1986, Skip's first Omaha team, I believe they lost to UNO, Nicholls and McNeese that year. LSU was ranked #1 at the time when they lost to Nicholls in Thibodaux.

So "reliever" means they are not good?

Obviously not. That guy pitched the game of his life last night and deserved the win. But it does mean "not starter".

This is an old article but it tells you what Skip had to face in building our program. Comparing Maneri to Bertman is stupid. Bertman had to face way more challenges and still won 6 NCs. Maneri inherited what Skip built and has not advanced the program at all. He won 1 NC and that was with Smoke’s recruits

many of our fanbase likes to say: "SLU, ULL, Nicholls, (insert in-state school name here) threw their ACE pitcher against us and we used our 4th or 5th guy"
That's actually, the furthest from the truth. They all have series games coming up Friday just like LSU. They are going to throw the best guy they can that does not affect the weekend series lineup...just like LSU.

So when we lose to an in-state school and you hear, "they threw their ACE", rarely is that ever true.

To guys at the smaller in-state schools, they want to shine when playing LSU. They WANT to WIN.

I remember going to an LSU/ULM(NLU) game in 1997 in Monroe and ULM won.
