If not, what was the reason for his success, was it just better teams?

Comparing anything Skip did in the 90’s to anything that any coach does in college baseball now is pointless. It is a different sport now than when Skip coached. Skip would still be be great, better than CPM and the one of the best coaches in the country today but he wouldn’t be as good as even he was in the 90’s.

I think they quoted last night before Skip era series with Nicholls was pretty close, not so much after his arrival

Well, because I can't remember how Skip did, but people are losing their minds over last night. My take is this, last night LSU puts in someone to see how they will do and Nicholl's puts in one of their better if not best starter to try and beat LSU. Seems pretty standard baseball procedure.
So our hitters are facing their best and they are facing our 4th, 5th, 6th best. And it is February. So if someone can remember how Skip did and compare them maybe people will see that Skip also lost midweek games to instate schools.

But you are not answering the question? Did he or did he not lose midweek games to in state rivals and if so, why? You say you can't compare, what is the reason other than hyperbole.

You understand that parity in baseball is much more prevalent now? Other programs have invested heavily in baseball and the wealth of players is now spread around more evenly. Also, we don't do steroids anymore. The sooner you Rantards realize what Skip did will never be replicated by any college baseball coach again, the happier you will be.

It gets very old teaching people every year that there is way more parity in the game now.

Yes, he did. And he lost because he was playing players who he wanted to evaluate to see if they could be counted on when the SEC and post-season started.

That's not my opinion. Skip has said that many times over the years and he said it was the only advice he gave Mainieri when he hired him at LSU.

"Don't be afraid to lose games in order to see who you can depend upon."

The 2011 baseball team went 12-2 in the midweek

The 2017 team went 8-6.

Which team had the better season?

Just found this - 1991 National Champs lost to Northwestern, Southeastern, McNeese and Tulane two times.

1996 national champs lost to northwestern state TWICE.

2000 national champs were swept by Houston(not midweek but inexcusable)

The difference is that they had skins on the wall and could tinker and might lose one or two. Paul’s current team is trying to re-establish confidence and a killer mentality after two poor seasons. Mid week games are t a luxury - we should be focused and come out to dominate.

So you don't think Manieri is doing that?

Yes, he did. And he lost because he was playing players who he wanted to evaluate to see if they could be counted on when the SEC an post-season started.

I’m not defending last night’s loss or any midweek loss. I think it’s totally inexcusable. If we can’t hit Nicholls midweek pitchers.....F

I'd rather post this here than one of the other troll threads.

LSU started 4 True Freshmen, 2 Sophomores, and 1 JUCO who were all making their first road start for the most part. Much like 2008 and 2016 this lineup is going to have major roller coaster moments during February and March.

The pitching is better this year so the hope is by April and May the hitters start to heat up.
