Promising Daniels 5 wouldn’t be worn while also promising Pickett he could wear 5? It seems like a Brian Kelly thing to do

Brian Kelly has absolutely no clue what was or wasn’t promised to any recruit. That I can promise you

BK was grossly incompetent and completely checked out after a very short amount of time. I’m sure he made both promises with the understanding that he wouldn’t be around to see it through

Just to touch on this. So espn reported they talked to Brian Kelly and he admitted they promised Pickett 5. He then said they didn’t give it to him last year because Daniels wasn’t on board. Why on earth would you make that promise if you cared about getting Daniels opinion on it.

Technically your premise involves only 1 promise he couldn’t keep. In breaking one, he would keep the other.

I don't know for sure since I don't speak with Kelly or know him personally. But from what I have seen and read there was never a promise made by Kelly to JD5 about that. Now, where the waters get muddy is that JD's camp reached out to the new staff and made it known their stance. That is why Kiffin answered the way he did in the presser.
Again this is all speculation but its a completely terrible look for JD5 and his camp.
