Where do people get off saying this?

People go to college to be prepared for their career. D. White is prepared for his career. One more year at LSU will not help him.

The only reward for coming back is winning the SEC and maybe a National Championship. In my not so humble opinion, the risk is not worth the reward.

As much as I would like to see him come back and win the SEC I think it’s in his best interest to move on.

You're about to get flooded with "I want" rebuttals.

There is really no benefit of him coming back. He is a first round lock, and has nowhere to go but down with his draft stock.

And got injured badly.

And still got drafted in the 3rd round and is still playing in the NFL. He was projected as a 2nd round pick before the injury. Have you heard him say he wishes he would have declared? If not, who cares?

"After a lot of prayer and careful consideration about the 2016 NFL Draft, and after speaking with my family and Coach Miles at great lengths, I have decided to return to LSU for my senior season. I feel as if I have a lot of unfinished business here at LSU. I want to give a special thank you to my family and friends who have been extremely supportive in helping me achieve my goals and especially during this decision. They'll continue to be an important part of my journey and I'm so grateful for their guidance and love. I have made friendships and memories that will last a lifetime here at LSU, and I'm so humbled to even be in the position that I am today. Tiger stadium is without a doubt the best place on Earth to play college football and I cannot wait to be back there on Saturdays in front of our unbelievable fans.

“After careful consideration and gathering as much information as possible about the draft process, I feel that it’s in my best interest to return to LSU for my senior season. I want to thank my family, Coach Miles and the LSU staff for their support during this process. Decisions like this are never easy to make. Getting a college degree and becoming the first member of my family to graduate from a school like LSU has always been important to me. Playing in Tiger Stadium in front of our great fans is something that I just wasn’t ready to say good bye to. I’m going to leave LSU with a degree and do everything that I can to help this team compete for a national title.

good for them, but 1st round picks get life changing money (and get a large chunk of it immediately as the signing bonus).

in 2017, 1st round picks got a 4-year contract worth:

Pick 1 = $30.4 million (20.3 million signing bonus)
Pick 16 = $11.9 million (6.8 million signing bonus)
Pick 32 = $8.9 million (4.6 million signing bonus)

Even if White gets picked last in the 1st round, he must go. You just can't turn down this type of money, even if the risk of injury is small. Plus, he'll be one year closer to his second contract, and that's a year of earnings he'll never get back if he returns.

Love ya, Devin, but you must go.

Get the frick out of here with those objective facts. This is no place for rational discussion. This is a thread about what some posters selfishly want from a player.

Dude...what dont you understand. Hes a first round talent this year and hes a first round talent next year. Hes going to get paid regardless. This isnt baseball, he doesnt have leverage over being a junior. And btw, the guy WONT get hurt next year.

He went pro and got hurt before making it on the field anyway. He could have come back another year and got that first round pick he expected to get last year.

Guice was an attention whore his whole career at LSU. The character difference between Guice and D.White is why you cant compare the 2 in this situation. Guice did it for the attention and D. White is genuinely considering it because he loves LSU, loves College Football and wants to leave an untouchable legacy.

I care about LSU football success.
Not DWs money or any other persons money.

That's what I've been saying. It makes sense to me for him to declare. But to the preponderance of posters here who disagree, that means I "don't want him back." It's his choice and I support him either way, but unlike the posters who want him to come back, I'm not starting my opinion with "I want..."

You don't understand.

I can only speak for myself, but I think I care enough about Devin White the person to where I wouldn't want to see him risk millions for my entertainment. Someone else that actually needs his spot to build up their own draft stock can use it and we'll be ok.

If there is some dream of his that he feels he's yet to fulfill in college and he feels he must do that, then I absolutely support him coming back. Obviously that's not a sound decision when it comes to financial risk but in that case finances are not a top priority for him. If money doesn't mean that much to him then it good for him.

If he's feeling he needs to do it out of some sense of duty to the fans, then he should go. Frick the fans, we're selfish generally speaking.
