Why shouldn't USC be #1? Florida was mediocre during the Zook years.

TX isn't top 5, not sure how you can argue that.

1-2 USC/UF
3-5 LSU/Oklahoma/OSU (depending on how you weigh the criteria)
6 Texas
7-10 Whatever

I'm not. The only reason I say a little heartburn is because I would take these 6 over the field. This list seems a little premature to me.

I basically agree with this, except, for me I'd have:

1-3 USC/UF/LSU
4-5 OU/OSU
6 UT

Not sure if he counted 2000, but USC had a losing record in 2000 and was mediocre in 2001. Those two years were worse than anything Zook did. I would rank them

1)UF
2)USC
3)LSU
4)OU
5)Texas
6)Ohio State

with 1-4, very close.

OU deserves a helluva lot more credit than they deserve. They won the National Championship in 2000. They have been to FOUR NC games. Somehow those 3 games they lost are black eyes...people would give them more credit if they won the Holiday bowl than losing the NC game which is stupid.

DECADE RANKINGS

But my stand on the top ten is that Oklahoma and OSU has been to three nc's LSU and Florida has each won two and USC has won one and been to a another as well...so those top 5 could vary

I agree. Which is why I think OSU should get more credit than Texas.

LSU should be 3rd in my opinion. But remember there's still one season to go in the NCAA version of a decade.

We are left with one of the most amazing stats of the decade: LSU had four players drafted in the first round of the 2007 draft, then won that year's national championship!

That's pretty cool.

And then again some people can always find the best part of a Dodd article!

pretty amazing IMO

I remember the media questioning the 2007 squad because "they lost so much"

LSU is always loaded.

we don't reload.

2008 hurts us in these types of rankings. If we win 10 games last year we're top three easily and maybe even number one. Florida's 2007 record is probably the reason they're not #1.

what has oklahoma won?

The first BCS championship of the decade and they appeared in 3 others. The only team that gives me a little heartburn being above us is TX. Regardless, if any one of the top 6 teams wins the BCS this year, then they should get it. No one would have more championships than that team. Only TX would have only 2 appearances, but they would have been in one of the greatest games, and would get a little sympathy credit for last year.

Uh, shouldn't an undefeated AU team have been in one of those championship game? Didn't OU pretty much get run over in all their championship game losses other than vs UF and played in a lesser conference than the SEC? I don't buy OU in the top 2 at all. USC, mmm, well, they have been tough for anyone to beat in big games.

Now this is the kind of reasoning we have come to expect from the Rant

The NCAA uses the 0-9 yrs to call a decade, therefore the current football decade has a season left. That's more evidence DD is a maroon. Personally I can't see how you call a team with one losing season, one BCS champion and one paper title the team of the decade. The three Heisman's are nice but don't hold as much weight as championships and really are partially cancelled out by the losing season in 2000 in my perspective. With a season to go the team of the decade is up for grabs and could be locked up by any of six teams with a BCSNC this season.
FL
USC
LSU
OSU
OU
TX.

I agree. I've never understood the retards who actually think it's better to not even make the national championship game than to make it and lose. Like they would actually rather win the Peach Bowl than lose the NCG.

I'd go:

USC
LSU
Florida
Oklahoma/OSU
Texas

If any of the top 5 win this year, they'd move up to #1.
