Really just wondering what the "take home" is on LSU's defense after the Spring Game. Hearing lots of excitement over the offense - but not much on the defensive side of things. Is Chief putting together another great defense, or are there going to be some rough spots next year?

number 1 defense shut out the number 2 offense. number 1 offense ran over number 2 defense. Perfect spring game

It might have been because they were going against Second team, but Freak Johnson and Ego Ferguson look almost unstoppable.

The defense is thin, man. For example, Mett was completing long bombs the whole first half. But did he complete them against Mills? Collins? Even Thomas? Holmes?

No...against some scrub walk-ons. Why were they playing? Because Mills was hurt and we only had three scholarship corners playing (didn't see Raymond).

We are thin at DE. We are thin at CB. I am not sold on Welter at MLB (looks real small).

We don't have a ton of experienced depth, but once the fall get here we'll have plenty of talent at these positions.

Nothing.

It is the spring game.

It literally means nothing.

The only tangible, legitimate observations that could be made are these:

1) Jennings does have a lot of poise...and I can see where the potential exists for him to be the future.
2) We have definite question marks at kicker.
3) Hayden Rettig is a million miles behind Jennings and I predict that he doesn't last more than a year here.

Sure, we'll expect contributions from talented freshmen like Herron, Beckwith, M. Jones, and White.

However, it certainly gives one pause to realize that these freshmen won't be a luxury but rather a necessity.

I'm sure this is true. But last season, I began to worry about our Defense. They weren't as sharp as previous years; I began seeing some versions of the old "3rd and Chavis" and am hoping that was last year's quirk.

It would be awesome if LSU's offense and defense would both be dominant in the same season, every game. I'd love to see another unbeaten run going into the Bama game this year. And this time, see LSU come out with a dominant win.

We might not have the best defense in the country, but we are going to have too much talent to have a mediocre to shitty defense with John Chavis coaching them in my opinion.

Expect growing pains. The defense might be very good by the end of the year but they will be a work in progress.

Lots of youth will have to step up but I believe we will be just fine once the season starts. Tre White will be a stud CB!

Yeah, they will make some young mistakes, but I don't expect our defense to lose us any games this year. Chavis has given us 4 top 12 defenses since he has been here, we'll be ok on that side.

Holmes and Thomas were the only scholly corners who played. Eugene played corner for the white, otherwise it was a couple of walk-ons.

Only 2 legit DE's played with Maclin and Rasco out. I doubt LaCouture stays at end, not sure about Fiest. Bower and Herron should get PT this year at end.

As far as MLB, the fall will be interesting, I doubt Welter sticks unless it's because he can call the defense better than anyone else.

I want to believe this. And I want to see this young D improve and deepen over the season. Thinking conditioning coach is going to be a key this season. We had too many nit-picky (and worse) injuries last year.

That we have a lot of injuries and that spring games don't mean a gosh damn thing. Not trying to be a dick. But after last years spring game we all though Mett was a legitimate heisman candidate. They'll be top 5 with chief.
We have the best DT's in the country. Freak very well could emerge as the top defensive player in the country not named Clowney.
Our DE's have talent but little experience.
Our CB's/S's will be solid.
Our LB's are extremely good and young.
