What we did did to Johnny Football and Lamar Jackson back in the day was a thing of beauty! My questions is this, would those same defensive game plans work today or has the game changed too much and it would be out dated?

It would work, no reason it wouldn’t.

Execution and personel could be a reason

Our defensive backfield vs manziel consisted of Eric Reid, Tharold Simon, Jalen Mills, Craig Loston, Ronald Martin, Jalen Collins, and Tre'Davious White Vs Jackson our backfield had Jamal Adams and Tre'Davious White

We also had linebackers like Kevin Minter, kwon alexander, deion jones, arden key, devin white, tashwan bower, duke riley when the qb's were roaming the field

This defense does not have nearly the depth of star power that those teams had. You are talking about some of the most star packed defenses LSU has had, NIL and the portal won't allow it. Hell Mathieu would've been counted in that number too had he not been kicked off right before

Can't just do 1 or 2 things anymore offenses are too good. But I trust Blake to put together a plan that the players can execute.

Have you seen any of our corners get beat deep this year? You don’t think Dottery, Weeks and Benefield are All-SEC caliber talents?

Yes, you named players over a 4 year span. Can you answer my questions?

I remember after the aTm game Chavis said something along the lines of:

I just looked at the downfield passing chart and his completion percentage was in the 30s% when rolling out to his left... so we made him roll out to his left.

Whatever Baker wants to do, don’t do that.

Sure, Bennefield did not have a very good game vs Ole miss

The lack of depth shows when a guy like Spears goes down and immediately ole miss attacks it successfully. How much depth do you think we have when a guy like Jimcoily has to come in?

In 2013, we were effective shutting down Johnny Manziel but several of the players you've listed had already moved on or hadn't arrived yet. Reid, Simon, Minter left after '12. Jamal didn't get on campus until 2014 and Devin until '16.

LSU-A&M Box Score 2013

IMO, it's fair to give Chief some credit. Having had to deal with Spurrier's Fun-n-Gun and Tebow's spread while at UTenn, he learned to think unconventionally. Oversimplifying, but his thing was putting speed all over the field on D.

I’m not, you naked players from 2011 to 2014. Debo did not play in 2012 yet you included him with Minter who did. Where’s the lie?

That doesn’t follow my question in the slightest.

You seem to harping on something that at best can be argued by proportion and not validity. It’s illogical, for example you play another way and your defense stays on the field all night, how did you limit the depth issue?

yes some of those players only faced him in '12, but Pretty sure you had white, loston and mills in the defensive backfield that season, kwon alexander was a backup LB on that team im pretty sure

we played lamar jackson in 2016, pretty sure white may have even sacked lamar

your question named 3 players in a response to a post about defensive depth, my argument is about depth, your question has no relation to it.

I for the life of me can't figure out why you would take offense to the fact that I stated those defenses had more depth. Not that you have argued against that actual argument yet

I take it the gist of your reply was that we were effective vs Manziel and Lamar because we had superior talent. I think that was true in '12 and '16 but not so much in '13 and yet it did too.

The team that shutdown Manziel in '13 was pretty pedestrian talent wise. Out two starting LBs were Lamin Barrow and D. J. Welter vs Aggie.

I’m not taking offense and you did name players over a 4 year span who never played together.

Barrow was pretty solid, think he led the team in tackles

My argument is moreso that this defense is forced to walk on thin ice, one card falling could lead to the whole house coming down, not that that was not the case back then but i think even the '13 year the depth of our defense was less tenuous. That goes especially in an erawhere hurry up no huddle is more prevelant. Would love to compare the amount of rotation fgoing on with our current D vs defenses back then

I do feel like he switched almost the entire line out at one point in the game
