Crews- .429 with .543 OB % - if I have to explain this guy you shouldn't be reading this thread. The only thing I would argue is he should be in the 3 hole.

Morgan - .370 with .514 OB % - Not a power hitter yet and that is really not his game. He chokes up on the bat and just hits the ball. More often than not, he finds gaps. He shows good composure and plate discipline for a freshman, although I could do without the complete spin around after every pitch. I think he should be our lead off hitter.

Beloso - .263 batting average is down but then you look at his team leading .563 OB % and it is all good. The only really proven hitter on the team.

Dugas - .308 - Anytime Dugas is hitting over .300 we are doing good because you know he brings the power. With improved SEC pitching, possibly lower scoring games, HR could make all the difference. I notice him taking a deep breath between pitches, trying to calm himself down. I wonder if he is putting a little too much pressure on himself and it affects his approach at the plate sometimes.

Doughty - .321 - Doughty is starting to heat up and has the potential to be the best all around hitter on the team. Rumors of a shoulder injury are flying around, lets hope it is nothing serious.

Drost - .500 - The best looking swing we have seen in a long time. Shows power and high batting average. Seems to struggle with off speed pitches from lefties, something other teams will certainly exploit. Can he get that fixed? Right now I view him as a part time starter, depending on the pitcher.

Arnold - .304 - Arnold is batting over .300 with HR power. I wouldn't call him a true power hitter but he often has high exit velocities and has played well at SS. I still think he should be at 3B and let Thompson and Cranford fight for SS, unless Safford, Dugas or Bianco can take over 3B.

Travinski - .500 - with only 4 AB you can't put a lot of faith in his batting average but it is still good to see from such a power guy. I really like this guy and want to see more of him. Beloso is his biggest road block from seeing more playing time as DH.

Wyeth - .429 - This guy is still unknown to us but he has not disappointed. He is batting well with limited attempts and the defense is not bad at all. This is someone to keep an eye and deserves more playing time.

Bianco - .250 - We know this guys has power and has some skills defensively. Competitive personality and maybe needs more bats to truly get comfortable. I'm just not sure where this guy fits in as an every day starter.

Gio - .333 - Limited at bats so far this year, and hopefully the injury won't hold him out long. He looked relaxed and confident so far and no bad swings yet. It could be a big year for Gio.

Safford - .250 - With 4 AB I wouldn't put much weight on his batting average or .500 OB %. All you can say is the jury is still out. Mainieri loves undersized, gritty, exfootball players, baseball rats that work hard and this guy fits the bill. This is Mainieri type of player and he has a slight tendency to play favorites in my opinion. Mainieri compared his instincts to Josh Smith. Something happened for Mainieri to back off a little before the season started, so we will see how this develops. I wouldn't be disppointed if he took hold of 3B.

Hampton - .000 with only 2 AB we can't ascertain much but we all know his potential. What I did like is he wasn't chasing pitches and even drew a walk. I would like for him to get more playing time, especially with Gio out.

Sanford - .273 - I starting to think Sanford is what he is, just a good player. He is not a liability in the field or at the plate but might not have the special tools to compete with all the talent on this team. I hope he proves me wrong.

Thompson - .167 - Known more for his excellent glove than his bat coming out of high school. He is the highest rated infielder we got on campus in a while. The 2 HR give him some validity at the plate but we would like that batting average to be a little better. I have my doubts that he stays at 3B. I think he could have a better glove than Arnold (maybe) and they should switch or I think he could get beat out by Cranford, Dugas, Bianco or Safford.

Cranford - .000 with 2 AB the batting average means little. He hit .286 last year and hit 7 of his last 13 ABs. Not really know for his power but if he can hit .286 with his glove. I would argue he should be our SS with Arnold playing 3B.

Milazzo - .158 - Milazzo does have the power to clear the fence and doesn't take a lot of bad swings. He is bringing up the rear as for hitting right now but I don't think he belongs in the automatic out category. I would like to see more of Wyeth but I still feel blessed to have Milazzo on the team.

That is a lot of talent and this freshman class is really showing. I think we need to get away from the mindset of the every day starter, especially with covid looming. I think we need to rotate more players and play situational hitting and pinch runners more to our advantage.

This freshman class is special at the plate and on the mound and they are only going to get better.

Hitting is going to be very inconsistent once we start to get into the meat of the schedule.

I am seeing 4 guys that you can count on to give consistent at bats against good pitching.

Drost is a wildcard if he continues to develop and they can find a spot for him. I think PM needs to continue to be aggressive with getting him at bats.

-Crews
-Morgan-
-Beloso
-Daughty

Milazzo looks lost. Need to see more of Wyteh. 3 hits in 7 ABS with 2 doubles.

Definitely too soon, but this is what I love. Trying to figure out our team before it is figured out is just a lot of fun.

Looked like a fool vs that Youngstown lefty. He was missing pitches by a lot. All pull.

I expect Drost to platoon, but I feel like Dugas should be an everyday guy. I think he could be a consistent hitter.

Maybe his all or nothing swings will ultimately result in slumps though

I meant if he faces both lhp and rhp he will likely be inconsistent because of the difference

He will be given the chance, but a 27% K rate & a .06 BB% is not sustainable over a long period of time

Low average, low OBP, with some power flashes should be expected

Unrelated to hitting but someone on the team has a .444 fielding %. This someone may or may not have been an opening day starter on the infield and may or may not be a relief pitcher now

Milazzo is good enough behind the plate that i don’t care how lost he looks swinging a bat.
