Of the 15 drafted players you listed, 8 were Cooper's.

Just because you didn’t realize we had those guys doesn’t mean they weren’t here.

Out of the 20 guys you listed, only 4 draft picks total from that decade before Saban.

8 draft picks in the next decade.
16 in the next

I agree and have been saying this. Raymond was here for a long time and got a lot of good DBs to LSU and into the NFL, but he wasn't the reason we were DBU, he just continued it.

9 NFL players from those 90s secondaries, very comparable to the 2000s.

Ron Cooper established it, and Corey did a great job keeping it going.

Anyone drafted in 2012 didn't play for LSU in 2012. Raymond's first year.

Tyrann was kicked off the team so he didn't play in '12 either.

YOu also forgot:

LaRon Landry Rd1 P6 (STARTED DBU)
Travis Daniels
Chad Jones (injured after draft)

After LaRon, LSU went on a 8 year run of DBs being drafted. And LSU only missed 1 year in 17 with no DBs being taken in the draft.

Chad Jones (2010 third round)
Danny McCray (2010 undrafted, 10 starts)

Tharold Simon (2013 fifth round, 5 starts)
Kevin Toliver (2018 undrafted, 2 starts)
Chris Hawkins (2010 undrafted)
Craig Loston (2014 undrafted)

Roland Martin (2015 undrafted)

Bolded were all Cooper guys

You're' also using draft years and not years they played at LSU. The best era was undeniably with Cooper when we had Peterson, Claiborne, Mathieu, Reid, Brooks, and Taylor all on the same roster

No. They haven't announced Peoples or Olsen either.

Not sure where you’re getting 9 from because you only had about 4 or 5 NFL guys listed.

Either way, I’ve counted 15 NFL guys from Saban/2000’s so it’s not really comparable

I’m not saying we didn’t have any good DBs at all before Saban, but we started building a culture of DBU & producing NFL DBs post 2000

What you’re talking about is the nickname, I’m just pointing out that we had outstanding DBs before the younger people decided to give it a name. The lineage goes back to the 90s or even to Carrier and Jackson in the late 80s. And those 9 NFL guys are

Corey Raymond
Anthony Marshall
Tory James
Rodney Young
Denard Walker
Mark Roman
Raion Hill
Fred Booker
Ryan Clark

Corey Webster would like a word with you lol.

Seriously, I get where you're going with the run on draft picks and all, but I'll go with CWeb here if we're going with the "starter" of DBU from a player perspective. 2 time All American, and 2nd round draft pick.

If anything, I think of CWeb and Laron starting it together to an extent. All America types who were also high round draft picks. T Daniels, Chevis and Steltz are in that mix, and then things took off around the time PatPete came. CFB is still mostly a Jimmies and Joes game, and LSU's recruiting was really rolling by that point.

I was including Booker & Clark in Saban’s era since there is overlap, but they were there pre-Saban.
I’m sure both of them claim Saban instead of Dinardo

Def Webster, but in my mind he a "looking back' type DBU guy after like 5 years.

I love Corey Webster and I should have added him.

Cory Webster and Travis (I don't play for the name on the back of my jersey) Daniels. Travis is one of my favorite players ever. Looks like he is enjoying retirement. LINK

I was kinda thinking along the same lines as you because I started watching at the tail end of Curley/ the Dinardo years and remember guys like Denard Walker, Tory James and Roman being high round NFL picks.

I also remember some of the other late 90s guys like Leblanc, Norm Lejeune and Ced Donaldson who were talented in college and maybe made a roster or had a couple years in the NFL. So similar to that long list of guys on the first page.

But there's a difference between an NFL guy or 2 on the team and one of them maybe being All SEC, and damn near the whole secondary getting drafted with multiple All America/ Thorpe types (let alone All SEC).

DBU is consistently being in the discussion for best/ top 5 DB units in CFB. No disrespect to the older teams cuz those are my first memories, but these last 15-20 years have been next level (for the most part).

There are 15 draft picks on your list, 8 from the Cooper era and 7 from Raymond’s, despite Raymond being here three times as long. This isn’t even a debate.
