I'm impressed w/Etling. For the most part, he makes good decisions, has good accuracy, and has great pocket awareness.
It's his position to lose, unless somebody outplays him. I'd like a better or more dynamic Option-but I don't think it's there next year.

If he gets some extra strength in his arm, I think that would put him over the top from just a game manager. That and hitting his deep balls consistently.

That middle screen was set up well Guice needed to follow his blockers better.

I like Etling. Not a world beater but smart and composed. There's nothing Peterman did at Pitt this year that etlinng cant do.

He missed one open pass to Dural and that pick when he should have checked down to Williams were his only faults of that game. He played well and continues to improve.

I see what you're saying on the check down, but he made the right decision trying to throw it OB. It wasn't a read issue as much as it was a technique(bad base) and arm strength. He got spooked out of the pocket a little early too.

The miss to Dural was a throw under pressure. He has to make those throws in crunch time in the big games, though.

The standard for QB expectations here are really low. This performance was "solid" but underwhelming. I watched the game, as well as the link above and came away with this:

We have just got to do better at this position. The idea that these kind of performances, in some way gives him the lead coming back into a true competition, is nothing more than an act of "sunshine pumping".

He's a good decision maker and generally pretty accurate. The deep passes and long throws really scare you though. That ball just floats forever. If not for Chark and Dupre making some great catches, his day looks much different.

Hopefully that's something he can improve on in the off-season. His arm strength is not going to get any greater, so he's got to be able to through the deep ball with better timing. He can't afford to be late on those throws.

Overall though, I think LSU can win with Etling. He has limitations, but the good outweighs the bad

Yeah, but that's part of being a good QB, putting in position for your athletes to go get it. You see it in the NFL every week. Aaron Rodgers basically has made a living of it.

Danny is a solid QB. He is above average, barely. I'll take it.

Pretty solid game. Wish he had gotten it to Dural more.

He's above average In the SEC for sure. Can't be more than 3 or 4 better. Better than Jalen Hurts for now. Probably about like a Rohan Davey as far as LSU QB's go. Accurate and good decision maker, not great arm strength and mobile enough, but not enough to scare a defense.

DE over estimates his arm sometimes and if he is going to be our starter next year he needs to know his limitations. Also should have known to take sack at the end of half and not try to throw ball away. Only had 50 sec. left and sack would not have hurt at all, should have known this coming into the huddle.

That said he has done well and has better wheels then i thought. I think he needs to come out of the pocket a little quicker and use his legs some. If he is going to take us to the title he will have to make great decisions and utilize his legs some (underestimated runner)and have pretty exceptional accuracy. Not a whole lot you can do to improve arm strength. Guy is a gamer that is for sure.

He really doesn't "miss" much. A lot of his completions are throws out of bounds or into the ground, and he is an expert at doing those without getting a flag for grounding... excepting the interception of course.

He also had several nice escapes and helps his lineman by using the pocket so well when it is there. Next year could be great with only a small amount of improvement.

He holds the ball too long. He has to shake his fear and let it go.

Still has one year and 4 games of coaching by Les Miles working against him. Some shock therapy in the off-season might be needed.

Also, clearly will stand in there and take a hit if necessary.

"The" standard? No sir. Thats the problem. LSU fans have gotten a bit confused. The SEC has struggled as a whole this season due to "poor coaching" and "poor QB play".
