The problem with Danny Etling is that he is a 5th year senior with starting experience in the Big 10 and Sec. At this point he shouldn't be holding the ball as long as he do, he shouldn't leave the pocket as quick as he does, and he should know all of his reads. He makes these mistakes more times than one would like and there's no excuse for it. It's not like he's a freshman. And it's all things he can control.

Etling is perfectly average in the SEC for QBs.

Leaning on passer rating can be misleading at times. Etling was hot garbage against UF, but his passer rating was higher than the Auburn game, a game where he was undoubtedly better throwing the ball.

I think Etling is an average QB in a poor QB conference. Not really sure what else you can say about him.

That's really all there is to say about him. He won't play at the next level and the poster(s) saying he is as good/better than Mett are laughably stupid.

He's a game manager. Nothing more, nothing less. He's not going to win the game for you, but he won't lose it for you either.

He will however, give you 110% on every play and his willingness to give that 110% regardless of the score can be infectious to other players. Danny leads this team not with his abilities but rather with his heart.

He will never be a hall of fame LSU player, but I'm damn proud to have him on the team.

I’m going to disagree with you slightly. On several occasions during the Florida and Auburn game, he used his feet, taking on brutal hits from defenders and fighting for yards to move the chains or make the conversion more attainable. The guy has the grit you want from a leader. And that type of leader helps you win games, and Etling certainly did.

Yeah, he'll do things that will help you win the game, but he will also do things to help you lose the game. It's liek there's no middle with him. He either makes a great play, or a terrible play.

None of you were here 3 weeks ago. DE's biggest problem is consistency which he's never had his entire career. He makes nice throws and follows up with disasters for the next pass.

Let's not get carried away here due to the fact he's had a lot of fortune on his side. Several passes too high or too long. Several other passes very easily could have and should have been picked. Bailed out by PI calls when the passes were terrible. He's been very below average to average. If he can wrap his head around not running into sacks and being accurate on more throws we may have a chance.

If Etling is among the best the SEC has to offer, then this conference is in deep trouble.

Agreed. We call the games to limit what he has to do and it shows. To give him credit though, he doesn't turn the ball over which is key to our game plan (knock on wood)

I'm sure the same can be said of many QBs, but the article insinuates Etling has improved his accuracy on deep balls, and frankly, I just don't see it. We're winning a few 50/50 balls this year, but throws like the one that Chark fumbled are woefully inaccurate. It's a bit terrifying that we're completing 53.3% of passes 20 yards are further. That number is frankly unsustainable.

Honestly the whole offense is a mixed bag. Etling has made some good throws and bad. Good reads and bad. His WRs have made some great catches and had bad drops, bad routes and can't separate. The run game is struggling with Guice 3.3 ypc below his numbers from last season. The OL is a patchwork mess. The play calling seems to be inconsistent as well.

We've had big plays, but we haven't seen many games with consistent drives mixing run/pass and no breakdowns. I love the big plays, but I would love to see us show an ability to control the ball and move the field. That will be the key when we play teams like Bama.

What a bunch of crap and totally unnecessary statement. Please tell me this isn't a pro-Brandon Harris post.

You do realize he's riding the bench behind a freshman at 1-6 North Carolina.

I know that you somehow feel better about yourself for sharing your wisdom with the rest of us.

These are college athletes. Why do people like you expect all of them to be perfect? Answer: so that you can brag to others about how good LSU football is when we win. You, personally, do absolutely nothing but sit on your butt watching the games; yet, you want credit for the victories.

Honestly, there is something about Etling that has garnered alot, I mean alot, more defending than the other qbs that were similarly mediocre.

You're an idiot. When Brennan struggles a little next year, everyone will want to see Narcisse.
No one gives a shite what color the QB is. They just want them to be give us the best chance to win.

People like his "grit" and leadership, but they despised the way JJ would look flustered even though Etling does the same thing with his WRs. I don't believe there is a conscious effort to let race into the mix, but you're right about the pass he gets compared to others.

Ehh, that's a little strong. Think about when a dual-threat QB topic comes up. There are always a few thinly-veiled racist comments from a few people.

That being said, I don't think its a major factor for everyone as the guy insinuated.
