DE DOES have his points of positivity. However, overall, he isn't sufficient for great success.

Mettenberger and Flynn were the last 2 QB's that I remember in the last decade that were poised for great success. LSU doesnt get that caliber QB very often. Ill take DE any day over the traditional "dual threat" that we've been forced to watch.

My only issue with Danny is that he is situationally challenged at times. It could be 3rd and 7 and he throws a 3 yard pass; Other than that, the kid has heart!

Yes, these dbags that sit on their couch, never playing the position, are experts on what someone else should do. They will complain no matter what happens.

Mett was great, but lets be honest, he was given the benefit of 2 pro-bowl WRs that made circus catches and got separation. Even James Wright got drafted and Kardon Boone was a decent WR as well. He also had an OL that could allow him to scan the field. They weren't great, but they were infinitely better than what Etling has now. And this season, Etling doesn't have a very consistent run game. This year Guice has 4.3 ypc. Not bad, but Jeremy Hill averaged 6.9 ypc. That was insane.

Comment first on your doom and gloom and anger issues: Your a ray of sunshine. Good luck in your endeavors. Glad to have you on our side. I am sure you are the life of all the parties you attend.

On a more, factual, or arguementive side - Ok Etling is no Tom Brady. His arm strength is not great. His pocket awareness is lacking. His foot speed is less than perfect.

BUT, he is a fighter. He absolutely will not quit. He's a mid level talented quarterback with guts. He will try to run over a linebacker when we need a half a yard. He will stay in after his helmet is turned sideways. And despite the lack of support from so called LSU fans he continues to play hard and rise above the scrutiny. He is our quarterback. And most, I would hope, would prefer that LSU fans not bash him.

At the end of the day our opinions don't matter that much. I recognize that.

He’s the toughest QB we’ve had since mettenberger. Mett just had a cannon and two all world wide receivers.

He sure as shite won the Auburn game. He def doesn't suck he's been winning games with no oline and 1 legitimate WR plus still putting up a better passer rating than any of Tommy Hodsons. He has 1 turnover the entire season in a chaotic offense and it came in a desperation situation while offbalance taking a hit. Etling is everything you want in a QB and if the rest of the offense would play with his smarts and toughness we'd be a great football team.
Now you know not to come here with that shite. Etling is a noodle arm that couldn't win the job at shitty Purdue, and has no business playing at LSU.

Wish we had more fighters like Danny on this team, and it sure looks like more of the team is taking his lead.

Honestly, if you look at Etling's stats, it tells quite a positive story about him:

84/142, 59.2%, 1252 yards, 7 TDs, 1 INT

At the end of the day, a 60% completion rate while only throwing 1 pick is exactly what you want out of a QB.

My only knock on Etling is that he takes too long to go through his progressions if his primary receiver isn't open. That has led to some unnecessary sacks and scramble/throwaways. On paper, he's only been sacked 12 times, which isn't terrible. But he's also abandoned the pocket early, only to scramble for a yard or two.

Otherwise, the dude is a gamer. For years, LSU fans have said that all they want is a QB who is a game manager and a legitimate passing threat. Etling is both.

I would say he did his best for us to lose it.

Throws a moon ball to chark, that had he not had a noodle arm would have been a TD. Still was a nice completion, but Chark fumbled it.
Throws a terrible pick right before the half where we were going to get points, but auburn guy can't catch. Then he made a beautiful pass to Gage for the TD.
Down by 2 with a couple minutes left on Auburns side of the field, 3 straight passing plays where he has time in the pocket and did absolutely nothing with those 3 plays, and got sacked on one of them, driving us out of field goal range.

Danny will make some great plays, and then some really really terrible plays. He doesn't appear to have the pocket awareness he did last year for some reason, and he's a terrible inaccurate passer that can only throw moon balls deep.
HE's not a good QB, but i still like him as a football player.

He's scrappy, but don't let the stat line fool you. He often misses open reads, and tries to run. I'm not bashing him, b/c I think the team really likes him under center.

Danny has the ability to make football decisions that put LSU in winning opportunities. His drive and want to win moves the team in a direction of victory. It is that reason I would have him ride the pine behind Jordan Jefferson if I we're still the coach of the team.

Totally agree about Etling. Game manager who won't lose you games. For Danny to be the 4th best QB in the SEC tells me that the conference has bad QBs.
