Amateur will be five rounds in 2020 but can be increased at MLB’s discretion, source tells The Athletic. MLB will decide date but draft will be held no later than late July. Also: Players get to sign off on scheduling.

There will still be a draft, though shortened. League will have right to keep it to 5 rounds. Undrafted players can sign for 20K.

I'm under the impression that the signing bonuses won't be that big.

The whole point of this is for MLB to reduce payroll in a year that there won't be much baseball, if any.

Cole Henry isn’t throwing next year even if he “comes back”

His last outing was the one where his velocity dropped and they pulled him early, right?

Henry ain't coming back nor should he. IF, there is only 5 rounds and he doesn't get drafted he will still sign with an organization to get his career started. No pitcher with a similar situation to him is going to do nothing for basically a year and half until the 2021 season.

Cabrera, and players like him, will probably go back and play another year if they don't get drafted. Just much less risk of long term injury compared to pitchers.

JUCO baseball will probably be better than D1 baseball next year at the top.

A lot of guys that would have went pro out of high school on a normal year are going to go to JUCO schools to be able to be drafted next year and not have to wait 2-3 years.

Unless they pass something that allows them to be eligible for the draft no matter where they go.

If they aren’t drafted, they won’t get a large signing bonus.

And a lot of guys already said they aren't doing that and are sticking to their D1 commitments.

He made it sound like Cole Henry won't pitch next season either way pros or college which made it sound like he needs surgery.

There are a lot of very good players that had zero intentions of going to college that won’t be drafted if it’s only 5 rounds. Those are the ones I’m talking about.

It's Rosenblatt. The sun comes out and it makes him sad.

Okay? That doesn't change what I said. It's been reported that a lot of top HS draft guys are telling the coaches of the schools to which they're committed that they're honoring their commitment instead of going JUCO for the draft.

It makes sense. They go this year, they have to wait 2 years to get their whole signing bonus, and slum it for 2 years. Or go to college for 2-3 years and still get the bonus around the same time
