You can possibly afford to play the long game if you are undefeated, but when you're 1 down, you have to win this one and at least give yourself a chance tomorrow.
Would you rather put someone less reliable in and get shelled and lose 10-3 again or at least get another game?

You can't think big picture when you are already in a hole. It doesn't work like that.
Of course you can, SoS is completely right

Tigers will wear gold jerseys again, PM says.

Your explanation should be fun.

I can't see person going that far into the game. If so, props to him. But he hasn't seen more than a few innings at once all season.

Fair enough. I mean honestly I agree to let a guy go if he's dealing, but the problem comes when you run him out there only 4 and he crashes. Doesn't eat up the innings you want and likely is done for 4 days...
If you are gonna throw a guy like a legit start I'd say you go with a starter, that's all.

More than likely, this is the wholestaff approach and Person is getting it started.

If Person just goes 30+ pitches and turns it over to Bain, Godfrey or Reynolds, you can still have him back for Saturday.
He's a lefty and has the best fastball/breaker combo of anyone available on the team. Let him get you started and hopefully your bats back you up.

Honestly it's the same reason he pitched Poche first...
You can disagree all you want but losing the first or losing the second game is the EXACT SAME THING. So, why not pitch the better matchups? Pitch the 1B guy first who gives you lefty/lefty matchups.
The same can be said now. Losing this first game or losing the game Saturday basically gets us the same thing. Not in the championship series. Are we gonna look back at this CWS and say it was successful because we won an extra game? No. So you have to keep in mind that you have 3 more games to play.

Poche was mowing them down until he lost his poise

Yea. That's probably 2 innings..... If he goes 4 innings and runs into trouble that will likely be well over 50.

Will we see Bain Friday then? Or will he come in after the 1st or 2nd inning and mow 'em down?
Probably Saturday if we get there. Poche on Friday
Or vice versa, but if Poche is ready to go on Friday you give him the ball

I simply said I would be surprised if Person pitched more than 2 innings so he could come back Saturday if needed. 30-40 pitches would be my max. That's all.

I'm thinking Bregman will start Game 3 in championship series if LSU gets that far followed by Jared Foster and Scivique will have to close it out

I'd be happy with 4 strong innings

If you lose you go down playing your best players.

Would go with lefty too. Poche was mowing them down until he lost his poise.
That's what I'm thinking. I wonder if Devall will be first out of the pen. He's good for another 2 innings or so. After that, we're out of reliable lefties.
