Dae'Quan Wright's NFL Stint

I went through the full timeline and put together this breakdown of exactly what all this fuss is about. Really makes this whole thing feel awfully silly when you realize he participated in only 5 padded practices, was cut by the Eagles before Preseason began, and basically just watched from the sideline for his entire 12 day tenure with Cleveland.
1. Rookie Minicamp (Philadelphia Eagles)
Date: Early May 2026
Type: Mandatory Rookie Orientation
Participation: Fully participated.
This was a non-padded, 3-day camp exclusively designed to get drafted and undrafted rookies acclimated to the team’s playbook.
2. OTAs / Organized Team Activities (Philadelphia Eagles)
Date: Late May to Early June 2026
Type: Voluntary Team Practices
Participation: Active field participant.
While the Eagles held 10 total sessions, Wright notably caught media attention during the designated two open-media practices, where he stood out by pulling down multiple contested, downfield targets.
3. Mandatory Minicamp (Philadelphia Eagles)
Date: June 9–10, 2026
Type: Mandatory Veteran & Rookie Minicamp
Participation: Fully participated.
He completed both days of non-contact, unpadded team drills prior to the team breaking for the summer.
4. Training Camp (Philadelphia Eagles)
Date: Late July to August 10, 2026
Type: 5 official full-contact practices and 1 walkthrough session
Participation: Active participant.
He went through full team installs and padded practices for roughly two weeks before being waived during early roster cuts on August 10.
5. Preseason Game Dress-Out (Cleveland Browns)
Date: Saturday, August 22, 2026
Type: Preseason Week 2 vs. Buffalo Bills
Participation: Dress-out and warmups only.
Wright was sidelined with an injury for his entire 12-day tenure with Cleveland and logged zero official team practices with the Browns. However, he was medically cleared right before kickoff, suited up in full pads, and took part in pre-game warmups on the field before watching the game from the sideline. He was waived the next day.

All of this because the NCAA did not rule until after the NFL draft. Ain't that sweet.

The real question is would he have gone pro had he known that he would be allowed another year. If we don’t know that answer because he never had the opportunity then the NCAA should be liable for his missed opportunity to remain in football.

Because of the specific terms of the Louisiana temporary restraining order that opened his ability to return to college, Dae'Quan Wright is required to pay back all of his NFL earnings to regain his college eligibility. You satisfied?

So you consider all players who were undrafted free agents that attended any portion of mini camp but were cut "former NFL players"?
If they tried unsuccessfully for 3 seasons and were cut each year, do you consider them pros with 3 year careers?
These guys don't receive credits towards NFL pension. They are never on an NFL roster, never appeared in a team photo or program. No trading cards are printed for them.
Calling them pro is intellectually dishonest. Especially given they had no other options once their seasons ended.

So is that the price to regain eligibility....just give back the money and all is forgotten?
The fact that he was an UDFA probably means that if he stays another year he ....might ...... improve to a 7th, maybe 6th round pick so not that much over the UDFA price if he makes a roster.....but he can't be drafted.....again.
Dae Quan may have not have screwed himself, although he is no longer eligible to be drafted, but he sure did not help himself unless Gordon is securing a million plus payday for 4-5 months of service.
One thing is for sure, neither his arse or Zxavion's arse will be at LSU once Spring classes start. Doubtful they darken a classroom this fall ......just like Leavitt and the other mercs on the roster
