Paywall, but had a couple of notes I had forgotten. Didn’t realize they lost their coach last year. If Tigers had beaten UNC, last year, it was WVU would have traveled to Baton Rouge for a super. They won the Tucson regional.
LINK
“I think it’d be fair to say that we’ve been a top 16 program in the country for the last two years, at least. We built something really, really special in Morgantown, West Virginia,” first-year WVU head coach Steve Sabins said after winning the regional. “We’ve had 12 big leaguers in the last 10 years, we won an outright title in the Big 12, and we’ve won two Big 12 titles in the last three years.”
…No big stars, just big wins. Mountaineers can beat you in a low-scoring game as they showed in defeating Kentucky 4-3 in the opener of the Clemson series.
The Mountaineers can also win slugfests as they did on Saturday (9-6 over Clemson) and again on Sunday (13-12 over Kentucky).

WVU’s coach doesn’t know what a “big leaguer” is.
Shocked.

we won an outright title in the Big 12,
I've peed outside my pants today. An accomplishment of equal magnitude.

Mmmm, OK, we'll see how that shakes out for WVU, bold statement by first year HC:
quote:
“To say that our program is the upper echelon and the best of the best in the country when it comes to Division I baseball would not be an understatement, I think that was proven this weekend.”

Only if he can say this after this weekend.

Meh, not bad but certainly not what it meant 5 years ago.
AZ decent, TCU and OSU not what they usually are, bottom of that league is not good.

I have paid attention to WVU sports the past 7 years due to family members moving up there and attending some Football and Baseball games. They have a similar fanbase in terms of baseball to Wake Forest. They have a good team but they have a little bit of an arrogance when they haven't Won anything. I look forward to seeing how Jay chooses to attack this weekend.

Sabins. But yeah, I also get a little triggered when announcer says the name.
