Well that would be the first time ever that the consensus # 1 team in the country at the end of the season in all the polls wasn’t a top 8 seed.

No room full of coaches is going to sit in a room looking at a LSU with series wins over Arky, Tenn, Bama, state and a sweep at OK against the resumes of Oregon st and coastal knowing LSU has the two of the best starters in the nation to take the bump also and say yea both of yall deserve this over LSU and are better teams because slight difference if any in just RPI.

Both teams combined can’t get half that weekend resume. A bunch of weekday and one off tourney wins don’t count like weekend series. That’s not how baseball is played and why LSU having those arms is going to mean so much to those guys on the committee. No team with those two arms if not going to be considered a top NC candidate.

City of Omaha may even be calling in if they try screwing LSU on to a 9 seed.

An analysis of committee picks the last 4 years says you are most likely wrong. Conference standings matter. Kentucky was #2 in the RPI in 2023, but 6th in the SEC. They didn’t get a Top 8 seed. The top 4 in the conference standings did. Last year #1 and #2 in the conference standings were the #1 and #2 seeds despite not having the 2 highest RPIs. In 2022, A&M finished 2nd in the conference and got a Top 8 seed despite being #22 in the RPI. That same year, Va Tech and Miami were top 2 in the ACC standings and got Top 8 seeds ahead of UNC who had the best RPI. Miami was also behind Wake Forest and ND in the RPI. History says Georgia and Auburn will not be seeded higher than LSU.

None of minor conference teams in the Top 8 in the RPI in that time period got Top 8 seeds either. History says Oregon State and Coastal Carolina will not be seeded higher than LSU. That leaves LSU at #5, maybe #6 if they throw Oregon, the Big 10, and the West Coast a bone.

Agree. Total BS if so. LSU should be no lower than 5 period.

You didn’t take head to head results into account. I think LSU gets a national seed but they do look at head to head results if standings are close. Georgia was 1 game behind LSU. Auburn was 2. Georgia swept Auburn swept LSU. I won’t be surprised if one or both are higher than LSU. Your own examples prove it.

Conference standings matter. Kentucky was #2 in the RPI in 2023, but 6th in the SEC. They didn’t get a Top 8 seed. The top 4 in the conference standings did.

Kentucky went 1-8 against 3 of those teams. Didn’t play Ark. They were also 3-4 games behind each of those teams in the standings and didn’t win a game in the SEC tournament.

Last year #1 and #2 in the conference standings were the #1 and #2 seeds despite not having the 2 highest RPIs.

Their RPI’s were 1 and 3. A&M was 2 but didn’t win a game in the SEC tournament. They did get 3rd national seed and Ark actually had a better conference record than A&M but got 5th national seed due to RPI of 6 and they lost their series against A&M.
quote:

In 2022, A&M finished 2nd in the conference and got a Top 8 seed despite being #22 in the RPI

Bad conference year. Only 2 SEC national seeds. A&M finished 2nd with 19 wins and also won their series against every SEC team with better RPI’s except Auburn who finished 5th with only 16 SEC wins and didn’t win a game in Hoover. A&M made it to the semifinals.

That same year, Va Tech and Miami were top 2 in the ACC standings and got Top 8 seeds ahead of UNC who had the best RPI.

Miami swept UNC and VT took 2 of 3.

Miami was also behind Wake Forest and ND in the RPI.

Miami won their series against ND and finished 5 games ahead of Wake in the ACC.

Lsu finished 20-12, auburn 17-14. No real good reason they should be ahead of lsu. Head to head shouldnt come into play with that big of a difference. If it does, then lets also drop texas behind arkansas

Auburn should still not be ahead of LSU given the difference in overall SEC wins, but I could still see it happening.

I agree, but when have you ever seen a committee make rational decisions consistently in these rankings

I can tell you Oregon state has no business being anywhere in the top 8 maybe top 16, but not top eight I just looked at their schedule and they lost all of the games of a team w/ a pulse.

I didn't look in to it but I saw one of these prognosticators dismiss the difference because Auburn played a “much tougher” SEC schedule to go along with the head to head sweep.

I know both teams got South Carolina and only LSU got Mizzou but I highly doubt the rest of the schedule was that much different.
