Just what the university was paying him. When Cholly Mac was coach, it was widely known that his total earnings as coach was over $200,000, but the university was paying him less than $80,000.

Emmert and Woodward saved Washington football from liberal idiots too. I know most people here are probably dismissive of a west coast team, but they were the second best program in the PAC 10 behind USC historically until like 2001 and won an NC in 1991. They aren't back to that yet, but it looks like they could be close based on recruiting

Hiring a "basketball guy" to be AD at a place like LSU is probably a recipe for disaster in any case

Same for hiring a “baseball guy”

By all accounts, Curley was as terrible a person as he was a coach.

The main reason Curleys team was very good at southern miss was a young quarterback named Brett Favre being on the team and if I remember right another man name Reggie Collier

He got lucky and beat Alabama and Auburn the same year when both teams were relatively weak.

What does politics have to do with anything?

Emmert was the President at UW when they hired Tyrone Cunningham (who failed miserably) and Steve Sarkisian (whose winning percentage was barely above .500). Hard to see how he saved anything there.

Woodward? I can agree that he had a positive impact at UW because he fired Cunningham, hired Sarkisian, and then hired Petersen. The program steadily improved from crappy to mediocre to competitive.

Hallman was from a wealthy family in Alabama. He did not need the $$$.

I love the way people assert this so often. Being from a wealthy family does not make one wealthy. It might, but it might not.

If I’m wealthy I’m not giving my kids money. They might inherit it when I die, but they will likely be in their 60s by that time.

When Jerry Stovall was hired to step in for Bo Rein when he got killed, he was paid 42,000 a year.

At that time a starting salary for an engineer was about $22,000, so LSU’s head football coach was making about twice what an entry level engineer was making. Now an entry level engineer makes about $75,000 and the LSU coach makes about $5 million.

That poster could explain that if that's what was meant.

Life and society was certainly better 30 years ago, though LSU football was not.

I remember "Curly's Corner" in Tiger Stadium.
It was actually the west upper deck.
There was a sign plastered across the top of the upper deck.

So embarrassing.
