using fielding % is a really poor way to judge how good an outfielder is. A really bad outfielder can end the season without many errors. not saying either are bad outfielders, but I'm not going to look at that particular statistic to make that call.

A lot of things that they don't really show on the TV broadcast enough. Jump, route, etc.

I think you're underestimating how small the margins can be and how much can be nitpicked for early first round picks.
I'm not at all. I just think you're overestimating how much him playing left/center is actually going to matter

But my main point is that he would have to hit for a lot more power as a corner OF only guy than he would as a potential MLB CF. And for where he's looking to get drafted, that matters.
he's going to have to hit for more power regardless to go in the top 10.

balls players get to that others can't. the jumps/reads they get off the bat. the angles they take to the ball. etc.
It's pretty rare for even a decent OF to have a bad fielding percentage. Brayden Jobert was an average to below average outfielder, and he had 1 error over his 2 seasons here.

Standfield is better at the position, but Curiel is a merging star that needs this position. Politics as usual....

Curiel is going to have a MONSTER season. I am still happy for football season but I am beyond excited for baseball season.

Crazy how many people don’t understand the draft

No, he was plenty consistent. I’d like to see him develop a little power, but I doubt that happens.
Underlying numbers , ie K% & BABIP show some luck. Don’t need more power; just more contact:

Despite not being a fast, you would have to assume that Curiel has better outfield instincts than Stanfield and gets a better jump on the ball

Stanfield is no doubt faster than Curiel. Still, Curiel (outside of the Auburn series) looked like a better outfielder. He took better routes, got better reads, and got better jumps.
Are there some balls that Stanfield can get to that Curiel will never be able to get to? Sure. But Curiel will likely be better, on average, at making plays.

He’s a very fast guy, so he should have a good BABIP. I’m not saying he “needs” more power; I’d just like to see him hit a few more HRs. I don’t think he has it in him, though. Either way, I like him at the bottom of the order.
Posted on 10/7/25 at 4:50 pm to Penrod
He had a 27% K rate in SEC games, and a BABIP of .477
There was a ton of luck involved that had little to do with his speed. For a guy that hits for no power, he can’t strike out at a 27% clip.

That is high. Remind me, because my brain dumped all baseball data after Omaha, who will be our third outfielder?

Jake Brown I would say likely to be your RF

That’s right! A lot of speed in our outfield yet again. Jay Johnson has made LSU baseball an embarrassment of riches.

No matter who’s in which position, our OF is fast and capable. I love this for us, with JB probably rounding out the OF. Curiel is gonna go off in his draft year

Stanfield hit .298 in the regular season and let the team with a SEC regular season batting average of .326.
