I have zero faith he will give the team any meaningful innings the rest of the post season. They are sitting on his changeup and crushing it.

his walks are more troubling than teams sitting on his changeup honestly

Last night was troubling, but let me tell you about Riley Cooper from April to about mid-May of 2023.

I have 100% faith that you are an idiot

Not really worried, I know he can play at a high level.

He’s def lost his edge. He’s as capable as anyone of getting it back. I think he needs to throw more fastballs. First inning he threw 5 straight changeups…. Why would you have him do that ? Lost his release point it was over.

His change up is bad now. He’s been figured out for a while

Yeskie call those pitches ?

he couldn't throw a fastball for a strike. it was horrible to watch.

Long list of pitchers in this bull pen who cannot throw strikes when needed. I think he can come around though.

You have to continue to give him the ball. He’s the only reliever that has proven able to string together consistent innings. Right now it seems 50/50 with him but it’s no worse than other relievers and none of them have shown at any point the consistency he gave you the first 2/3 of the year. So you just hope he works through it, no other choice.

The hits he gave up would have been manageable without the walks, and that hasn’t been an issue for him all season before last night.
If he can get enough control to avoid walks, he’s still plenty useful, even if in a reduced role.

Cooper Williams still needs to show a little more, but he’s bordering on emerging as a dependable multi-inning reliever. He single-handedly kept us in the Sunday game and he looked good in his previous outing, as well.
If Williams can continue delivering, he can start to take on more of a middle reliever role and let drop back and Cowan focus on spot work.

quote:Agreed. Williams’ trajectory seems the opposite of Cowan’s, so eventually we may just need to rely more on the one who’s good now, not the one who was better before. Cowan may have a role, but he has been bad for a month now, with one exception.

I hear you on Cooper Williams, but two weeks ago people were saying the same about Shores and before that, Rizy. My point is, there isn't a sure thing right now, so in high leverage situations I would go with the guy who was a sure thing at one point in the season.

I know, but there will be opportunities for multiple back-end relievers to close games this weekend. He should draw an assignment to see if he can build on this last outing. We need to know if he can step up a level if we make it Omaha.

we need to get up about 7-1 on WVU and and let him regain his mojo ASAP

This is VERY true

If Jones takes the Cano out and DD doesn't commit an error, it's 2 runs.
Posted on 6/3/25 at 6:46 pm to lsuson
With all his troubles he still possesses a 3.09 ERA for the season which most teams would take in a heart beat out of a bullpen arm. To say he won’t have meaningful pitches is well….just dumb.
