According the ESPN report, there may have been other schools offering money, apparently bidding for Newton's services. Could this story get bigger than any of us would like it to? Is it possible LSU could be implicated also?

It won't be easy for the NCAA to substantiate the allegation. If any money was paid for Cam, it likely came from a booster or someone not employed by the university. The money trail, if any, will be difficult to trace.

Of course it could. But it wouldn't make sense. Miles' track record shows that he kicked an immensely talented quarterback OFF of the team to preserve the integrity of the program. Further, he removed a player and a coach once it was revealed the two had engaged in a monetary transaction. It doesn't make sense that he would then go and bid on Cam Newton.

Les Miles lost to Auburn on purpose to get Auburn to #1 and increase the media coverage on Cam Newton. Les Miles knew this news would come out if Newton was in the news as much as he is. Tricky Les Miles

Sorry about previous post...inadvertent click.

Hmmm no, so far the only FACT is that Miss ST put 180 K down. the rest is allegations. Even if they didn't get him, that is a violation.

At no point in that article did it say that MSU put 180k down....what it said was...the so-called "agent" told Bond they could get him for 180k because of his tie to Mullen while at UF. All others...the agent said he was asking for 200k.

Bond reported it...and it took off from there. There are no indications, so far, that anyone has "paid" for Newton's services.

Let the investigation unfold and see where it takes them.

People, you need to continue your education so that you can comprehend what you're able to read. The investigation into Cam's recruitment centers around Mississippi State and not Auburn. It's pitiful that you kids hope for a win due to a forfeit. If LSU would have taken care of business, LSU would have won.

we probably wouldn't receive a win but if auburn gets itself into trouble and has to vacate wins then all we have to do is win out to get to the sec championship game

does he play against Georgia and Alabama?

Wins that are forfeited or vacated haven't traditionally equaled wins for opposing teams so I'd say that this is the big question. Does Auburn bench him pending the outcome of the investigation and how much would his loss degrade the team making the possibility to lose to UGA and Bama that much greater?

Bottom line is LSU needs to win 'em all and see how shite shakes out!

This is like deja vu all over again (1993) for Auburn.

I understood from the report on ESPN.com that Rogers simply told Miss St they could get him for $180...nothing about them actually offering that amount.

Crazy story...ran into a Miss St fan in Destin when LSU was playing them. He told me that Auburn had bought Cam right out from under them...he didn't offer any proof so I just dismissed it as jealousy...who knows?!

The 2 go hand in hand. Why the hell do you think Cam bypassed State? It wasnt the system/coach, because he knew both. It wasn't their QB situation bc he would have started. Even Mullen stated in an interrview that he thaught Cam was coming to State until the last minute. Cam got paid by Auburn and State is playing whistle blower.

My Question is that if this was reported to the SEC Office in July, why in the hell did they not inform the NCAA of the allegations.

Because it's getting towards the end of the season and 'Bama is on the ropes - Auburn is getting too close to the SECCG....they want 'Bama in and Auby out.

You are naive if you think that MSU is the only school that may be affected by this information.

First of all, if Cam asked MSU for 180K for his services, and then he ends up at Auburn, it immediately raises a flag as to what Auburn may have done to get him there. You have to wonder effectively steered him to Auburn, especially since MSU would have been such a natural fit.

Second, he did not go to MSU, so MSU can potential clear its name by proving they retracted conversations with Cam after the alleged price was discussed.

Also, I heard from several sources last week that this same proposal was brought to LSU, but, thank God, they turned it down aggressively. I can assure you that LSU will not be negatively affected by this at all.

If this was offered to LSU, it seem that they would have gone straight to the NCAA and SEC and advised of the situation to protect themselves.

Again, the article states Ms. St. reported it to the SEC in July, so why would the SEC not report the allegation to the NCAA then.
