Chester would be a better fit at guard?

I think regardless Chester will be starting somewhere. I’d expect the highly touted freshman with a full year of SEC experience under his belt to take a step forward at center or at guard.

If Jones comes back at tackle then you could have Weston Davis at tackle and Adams can play guard or tackle

Mubenga at guard with Chester and Echols at center

Khayree Lee plays guard and then whatever you add to the roster

Also have ory Williams and Calloway as backup tackles

Man it almost feels like you need to get a guard, tackle, and center that can play right away from the portal.

The only props I'll give chester is that he can snap the ball.

Other that, he sucks balls at offensive line. Dude literally moves out of the way of rushers. Josh Williams had to save his arse during the oklaho.a game.

I'd say all Coen Echols has to do is be a warm body and he'll be the starting center.

I have a buddy who played o-line in college and he says that on the plays where it looks like Chester is clueless, it is really the RB's responsibility to pick up the middle rushers...the Bama game comes to mind.

No way we relied on a rb that much up the middle to take on DTs. Need someone to clip the plays, but he just stands there and shuffles his feet to the side.

I was referring to the LB blitz in Bama game that resulted in Nuss fumbling...would need to see the DT play you are talking about...

The starting 2025 Center is not currently on the roster.

It's not Chester and it's not Echols.

Maybe beg Garrett Dellinger's little brother to transfer in from Michigan State.

Chester is 6’ 6”, which is pretty tall for a Center. The taller you are, the harder it’s going to be to get low and gain leverage quickly after the snap. Plus the Center has to worry about calling out protections and snapping the ball. It’s a difficult job and not everyone can handle it.

The thought is that if Chester slides to Guard, his height won’t work against him since he wouldn’t be snapping. He also wouldn’t have to worry about calls or snapping. Just get off the ball and hit. He needs to get stronger, but he’s only a redshirt freshman, so there’s room for him to get bigger and tougher.

Maybe it doesn’t work out, but if he puts in the work and develops, it keeps an experienced player on the field when we won’t have many going into next season.

It would do him some good to put some muscle on this offseason and move him to guard. He tends to get paralysis by analysis, give him less responsibilities and he will be fine. I think it’s crucial we get a big time center in the portal this year

Coen Echols is going to play somewhere next year

Just too talented not to be on the field. Guard or center.

I think Campbell and Jones made us forget how difficult it is to start on the offensive line as a freshman. Chester pissed me off all year but I think we need to step back and remember how young he is and not judge him just yet

Lol What's so special about him?... he's like 3rd on Michigan State's depth chart.

How do we know it's not Echols?

I think they will go and probably get someone to sure up center.

I don't think Chester gets moved to guard and all his problems are solved.

I remember when 2018 ended it almost seemed like we needed to get WRs , only there was no portal. Then Jefferson stepped up, and two 2018 freshmen - Chase and Marshal - took over. I bet we have what we need, except for maybe one guy from the portal on the interior line.

Imagine how the Rb role changes when the Chester gets it.

I have faith that, if next year, he plays G or C, the coaches trust him because they have plenty of time to get another guy.
