I can tell you that many other former Tigers other than PP called to give Raymond the recommendation to the staff.
Lots of former teammates of his went to bat for him.
This hire is a great one in terms of linking a larger group of former Tigers back closer to the program. A large segment of letterwinners, ordinary fans, donors, & football staff are happy with this hire.
Chavis was pleased as well.

I am too.
He was a hs teammate. Year behind me, 2 behind Verge.
I was a little surprised due to the lack of experience, but I knew he would eventually hold the position.
He was always a hard worker and determined to be successful. Without the foot injury, he'd have been in the league for several more seasons.

I think a guy with Cooper's resume and track record are more the exception to the rule vs. what you normally get when hiring for positions like this. So his lack of experience isn't too huge of a shock.
of the field of names we know I liked he and jackson over Steele. Jackson may have held an experience edge, but would have had to establish all new relationships recruiting wise due to being out of college coaching for a little while. Corey should be able to hit the ground running.

he was only gone this past season, but doubt he was recruiting the areas Corey was being at Wisky.

Regardless, he still isn't all too familiar with this region and would need to establish some relationships. West Coast ties haven't exactly been very beneficial for us.
Look at Mccgaughey, was only out of college coaching for a couple of years, but had to spend most of last year re-establishing contacts.
Raymond likely won't face these obstacles is all I'm saying.

You have to think his 5 years on staff recently played a significant role.
He is very likeable and many current admin are close to him. Even Halliburton was a roommate of his in college.
Technique and scheme won't suffer, for sure. The kids are going to love him.
The only reason I responded in this thread was the notion that PP got him the job. That's just silly.

that's not what I said at all, just mentioning a guy familiar enough with him to call up and back him.

Sorry, didn't mean to infer you. I thought you said someone on radio or internet was making that statement, and felt compelled to laugh out loud at the thought.

well, one thing is for sure. People can't say we don't have recruiters on the staff, now. between mac, wilson, raymond, haley, and henry, we should have enough recruiters.

Husker fan checking in. Haven't visited for a while, but figured I'd check in to see how you guys feel about Raymond coming home.
We're a little on the fence about this up in Lincoln. Nobody has anything bad to say about Raymond, but it's not like he had a great impact here, either. He was only at Nebraska for one season as a coach, during which we had some pretty significant turnover in talent. His cupboard was somewhat bare here, so his results were probably skewed.
Likewise, he didn't have a tremendous impact in recruiting, although it seems pretty clear from his recruitment of Trevell Dixon that he builds bonds with players. Most of us are expecting Dixon to switch his commitment if/when LSU offers.
Of course, Bo took the news well:

I wouldn't want to work under that head case either.
That is my problem with Raymond. He is completely unknown on recruiting, coaching and talent evaluation. I seriously doubt he is going to be better than Cooper in development and evaluation.
Should be easier for Raymond to recruit to LSU over Neb...no offense.

You guys were 34th in Pass Efficiency D and 18th in total passing D with significant turnover?
What was skewed?

We were 3rd in Pass Efficiency in 2010 and 5th in Total Passing D, against far better passing offenses in the Big XII.
I'm just saying that Raymond isn't best judged by that 34th-ranked Pass Efficiency, because the previous DB coach seems to have failed to develop guys behind Amukamara, Gomes and Hagg. Dennard is a projected first(ish) round draft pick, but he's a naturally gifted CB. Heck, I could probably have coached all of those guys to decent years.
Raymond's secondary often looked lost this year, so if you're just basing it off stats, that's not a great indicator. But I'm not pinning that on him.
