Looks like Nebraska is dipping back into the LSU well to replace Raymond. Rumor has it that we're hiring Terry Joseph, currently the DB coach/Recruiting Coordinator at Tennessee, and formerly a Grad Asst. at LSU under Pelini.

Joseph is the cousin of former Husker QB Mickey Joseph.

We're a little on the fence about this up in Lincoln. Nobody has anything bad to say about Raymond, but it's not like he had a great impact here, either. He was only at Nebraska for one season as a coach, during which we had some pretty significant turnover in talent. His cupboard was somewhat bare here, so his results were probably skewed.

You guys were 34th in Pass Efficiency D and 18th in total passing D with significant turnover?

What was skewed?

We were 3rd in Pass Efficiency in 2010 and 5th in Total Passing D, against far better passing offenses in the Big XII.

I'm just saying that Raymond isn't best judged by that 34th-ranked Pass Efficiency, because the previous DB coach seems to have failed to develop guys behind Amukamara, Gomes and Hagg. Dennard is a projected first(ish) round draft pick, but he's a naturally gifted CB. Heck, I could probably have coached all of those guys to decent years.

Raymond's secondary often looked lost this year, so if you're just basing it off stats, that's not a great indicator. But I'm not pinning that on him.

ok, whose Corey Raymond????

Apparently, your Corey Raymond.
Husker fan checking in. Haven't visited for a while, but figured I'd check in to see how you guys feel about Raymond coming home.

Likewise, he didn't have a tremendous impact in recruiting, although it seems pretty clear from his recruitment of Trevell Dixon that he builds bonds with players. Most of us are expecting Dixon to switch his commitment if/when LSU offers.

Of course, Bo took the news well:

Looks like it's actually going to be Clemson.

Either way, we have to play better defense or we're going to have another Missouri or Oklahoma on our hands.

He doesn't strike me as a guy Tom Osborne would want at Nebraska as a head coach.

Go read up on the kind of person Bob Devaney was. Tom Osborne loved Devaney. Rumor has it that Pelini reminds TO of a young Bob Devaney. I have no confirmation on this, but that's the rumor.

Bo may not be coming to Nebraska. All I know is there are a LOT of coaches out there who could do a worse job of fitting in with our culture.

Nebraska is a far cry from the Nebraska we all grew up with.

Ain't that the truth! We'll get back up there someday, hopefully not in the too distant future.

We need to show you southerners that people north of the Mason Dixon line can still play football! We've been doing a piss-poor job of that lately!

"The guy is horrible."

This is the same guy that led your defense on teams finishing #3 and #5 over the last two years, and possibly in the top five again this year.

What more do you guys want?

JV - did you guys have any injuries from the beginning of the season until those last two games, or was your D pretty much healthy and whole?

Also, what was the competition level of those first few games compared to Ole Miss and AR?

I hope you do or at least someone. Get ready for zero blitz!

He blitzed plenty when he was here. It's all a matter of personnel. He had some really great players here at Nebraska like Barrett Ruud and Josh Bullocks, Demorrio Williams, Fabian Washington, etc.
Pelini is popular here because of how he had our defense playing in 2003, and because he coached us in the Alamo Bowl against MSU.

A lot of people seem to think he's a lot like Bob Devaney was in the 1960s when he took Nebraska from nothing to a Championship team. We'll see about that.

Pelini is viewed as an up-and-comer in the coaching ranks. Somebody is going to give him a shot, I'm just not sure it should be us.
This is the Lincoln JournalStar's most up-to-date Husker info, and they've got nothing about any announcement:

LINK
Lincoln press is reporting no such thing, just so you guys know. I'm not saying it's not going to happen, just that it's not being reported here.
It would be kind of weird to hire a guy we just beat two years in a row.
I completely believe that you saw him. The "Husker hat" was just a joke because of all the rumors about him coming to Nebraska.

According to a Lincoln paper Pelini has been in regular meetings with LSU staff all morning.
So there you go. Confirmation.

Did he happen to have a Husker hat on, or was he in "civilian" attire?

There's a rumor over on the Husker Board that Pelini resigned from LSU today and will be announced as the Nebraska coach tomorrow. Anyone here know anything at all about this? Seems far-fetched to me.
Harvey Pearlman, Nebraska Chancellor, was on the plane with Osborne.

There are zero confirmations that Bo was on the plane at any time, just speculation. There is further no confirmation that Pelini went to Atlanta with Pearlman & Osborne.
