Even if the BCS was illegal that would not mean that a playoff would be mandated. They would go back to the bowl system. Congress cannot impair the obligations of contracts and ESPN has a contract thru 2014. No playoff anytime soon.

Sounds like they are maybe stepping into the role of the judicial system.

The GOVERNMENT should have no effein business in this.

Obama already made the comment that a playoff will have to be forced on the wealthy bowl elitist. I say do it, and now every congressman in Texas is gonna have pressure to do something about the chokehold of the Rosebowl types. They may have left the wrong team out of the NC this year. Texas may get the last laugh.

It's amazing that college football has survived for over 100 years as the greatest sport in America without a playoff. Now, a few retards from ESPN spew off the need for a playoff and everyone is on board.

Yet those ESPN retards were deathly silent in 2004.
The government needs to stay out of this.

So...the US no longer being a free nation is official now?

Congress need to stay the frick out of college football and college sports. They fricked things up enough already with Title IX

Last time government got involved in football the forward pass got invented, so maybe this is a good thing.
naw the last time i remember it happening with any effect was the tulane lawsuit that made a mockery of the BCS

I'll be the first to state it...."Congress hates LSU!"

I like college football as much as the next guy but the last thing I think congress needs to be worried about is football.
Its clearly their top priority.

Was Teddy Roosevelt not President at the time or something?

But they can get the FCC to deny ESPN the permits it needs to operate unless they release their counterparties from those contracts. Or they can purchase those contracts just like they can force people of their land to build dams.
The Federal government has lots of means to get their way. Look at the drinking age in Louisiana, it was raised to 21 primarily due to pressure from the federal government in the form of the withholding of federal highway funds.

Clearly Title IX has destroyed college football. College football is a smoldering remnant of what it once was before Title IX.

Oh he was, he just had nothing to do with the invention of the forward pass.

How is it anti-trust?? The 6 big conferences signed off on this. It wasn't force fed to them. It's not like one company has a monopoly on it.

??? A prerequisite for a trust is that the 6 big conferences all agree to something.
Of course what they have to agree to is price fixing - and the BCS seems like a stretch for that.
