HR 1120 in the US Congress

Resolved, That the House of Representatives--

(1) rejects the BCS system as an illegal restraint of trade that violates the Sherman Anti-Trust Act;

(2) demands the United States Department of Justice Antitrust Division investigate and bring appropriate action to have the BCS system declared illegal and require a playoff to determine a national champion; and

(3) supports the establishment of an NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision Championship playoff system in the interest of fairness and to bring parity to all NCAA teams.

I would love to see a playoff, but this is ridiculous.

I was skeptical because ironically there is an ACT named HR 1120 called the "Deleting Online Predators Act"

But this is just a House resolution passed April 17, 2008. There's no mandate or anything.

Here's a link that works with the full text: Resolution

By far my favorite is the reference to the resolution passed last year in the Georgia House at the urging of a still-seething UGA electorate. It reads:
quote:

Whereas on February 1, 2008, the Georgia House of Representatives adopted, by a vote of 151 to 9, H. Res. 1034, recognizing the BCS system as `dysfunctional' and urging the NCAA to implement a playoff system to determine a national champion in the sport of college football

What were those 9 representatives thinking?

I think a Division I playoff system should be Obama's first Executive Order. Then he can do some other spreading the wealth later...

Last time government got involved in football the forward pass got invented, so maybe this is a good thing.

And this is why they take a third of my check?

I like college football as much as the next guy but the last thing I think congress needs to be worried about is football.

Congress will force a playoff system then find a way to tax it heavily to pay for more pork barrel projects.

This is stupid. I can't believe that congress is deciding the fate of football. They are just gonna screw it all up. I personally do NOT hate the BCS because it has been EXTREMELY kind to LSU over the years.

And here I was thinking that Congress would be worrying with trivial things like the economy or national defense. Glad their priorities are straight.

We can't enforce immigration laws but they are going to fix college sports.
No wonder their approval rating is lower than Miles and Malleveto's.

They fricked up the financial system, what can we expect with sports? Will Notre Dame get a bailout after another losing season next year?
