2026

2025

Returning Player Changes:
Zac Cowan - ERA drop from 2.94 to 5.32
Casan Evans - ERA drop from 2.05 to 5.93
Gavin Guidry - ERA drop 2.59 (2024) to 6.39
DJ Primeaux - ERA drop from 3.86 to 7.71
Jaden Noot - ERA drop from 4.13 to 6.75
William Schmidt - ERA increase from 4.73 to 4.22
Mavrick Rizy - ERA increase from 4.74 to 4.22
Cooper Williams - ERA drop from 1.80 to 7.94
Grant Fontenot - ERA increase from 7.20 to 4.18
Connor Benge - ERA drop from 6.75 to 9.00

Three players with better ERA’s, the rest with signifcant drops. A lot of you defend Yeski but this is one of the worst year over year changes I have ever seen at LSU.

Absolutely no one is saying he did a great job this year. But our pitching staff was top 5 in the SEC in both of his first two seasons. So yeah, I'm going to say it's much more likely this season was an anomaly. and we'll be a lot better next year.

Notice that there were 20 more walks year (26) over year (25). That just proves that raw stats can be misleading. In 26’ it was WHEN we gave up the walks or HBP. A&M is the example I like to use. With two outs we repeatedly put players on and then we get a wild pitch or passed ball moving them to scoring position. That ends up bringing one of their better hitters and, bang base hit or home run. We give up 2-3. That happened all weekend. The numbers were bad but the situations were much worse.

Your definition of drop and increase is confusing.

I'm as disgusted as anyone else, but let's see what he does next year before throwing him to the curb. History says he will make adjustments, with or without a change in the arms he has to work with.

And I say the same about whoever's decision it was to be so twitchy with in-game pitching changes (and often) that may have contributed to things.

Show Cooper Moore’s innings pitched compared to Eyanson (1/3 less) in the same Saturday starter role.
You can’t do that to your pen. You separated Anderson and Eyanson but not Schmidt and Evans. LOOK AT frickING INNINGS PITCHED AND CONSIDER THE ROLES LAST SEASON. Evans was a reliever most of last year.
frick man. Don’t post shite without context. Baseball isn’t like that

The horrible defense, wild pitches and HBP played a huge role in our season as well. We misplayed 5 infield popups in a single season and pretty sure we lead the country in guys reaching base on passed ball strikeouts.

Connor Ware had one of the craziest stat lines I’ve ever seen. 13 hits allowed and 23 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched and his era was over 5.

Hanny and Canevari discussed some of this on their show this week. Hanny pointed out that we had 5 pitchers with 50+ IP in '25. This year only two.

Dan noted that Skip always wanted at least 7 dependable arms once post-season play started. We had 8 throw in Omaha last year. Their point - we tried to develop too many arms this year.

Losing Cooper Moore hurt. No ifs, ands, or buts. Would he have been a lifesaver for this team? IDk. He got hit pretty hard at Vandy and was ok vs OU when he went out.

But the flip side it that in his absence, it afforded others opportunity. And TBH, we were just as bad at the end of conference play as at the start. IOW, no one was progressing.

I think this was much more of a symptom of having to develop more arms this year. Moore goes down in March and Evans basically misses the last half of the season. You essentially had to replace 10 innings a weekend at the minimum. At that point it's basically an open try out to see who will step up and take the reins.

We've been in similar situations in the past and guys have stepped up. No one did this year.

Again, I think this was a symptom of losing Moore/Evans. Sheerin wasn't supposed to go twice a weekend for multiple innings. Paz wasn't supposed to be starting Saturday nights in the SEC. He was barely ready to pitch in the fall. Guidry shouldn't be seeing a lineup two times through. Too many guys were forced into roles that they had no business in.

In '23, we lost 3 major pieces. luckily, two of those were bullpen guys, and the third was lost before the season started. I can't remember a year in recent history outside of 2019 where we truly lost 2 weekend starters like this.

In 2019 we lost Hill after 2 starts and then Henry for a month in late April, but he was back to his normal self by regionals, up until the Supers. We also had Marceaux, Eric Walker, Peterson, Hilliard, and Zack Hess to at least eat starter innings.

This year's roster just wasn't built to sustain losing Fri/Sat starters who were supposed to be top of the conference guys. It's a lot harder to do that now with the portal, considering guys who aren't starting can just leave.

Well, he was hurt before Vandy
