@ACL11190

How was Pensacola. I've considered moving there for the lack of income tax (yes, property tax and ins. are high) and proximity to LA, but I don't know much about it. Curious any thoughts you have.

Fair enough. But it makes Tulane an interesting choice. Girl/Guy ratio at Tulane also a positive, but they're not exactly the hottest girls.

I was at the Portofino resort this Summer and all of the cleaning crew were really hot Ukrainian imports. It was surreal. What looked like the Swedish bikini team (in housecleaning garb) was cleaning the place.

I've been to Baton Rouge, Athens, Columbus, and Auburn. I honestly liked all of them. I like living in Tuscaloosa, but I couldn't stay there the rest of my life. It's fine to go to college, but after that I think most people want to leave.

I have to agree with the comments that BR is not a college town- it is a town that has the college in it. Go to towns with large universities which are not major cities. These are college towns. When I lived there (15 yrs ago), if you got a mile away from campus, you would not even know you were in a college town.

I get your point, but if you get a mile away from the UGA campus, you are in the same boat.

Can someone here define college town. If we are talking about cities with many things and a college, then we are listing Baton Rouge, Madison, New Orleans, Memphis, Talahasse, Austin, Madison, Mobile, and Pittsburg. If we are talking about towns WITH ONLY COLLEGES IN THEM, now we are listing cities like College Station, Auburn, Starkville, Tuscaloosa, Ruston, Oxford, and Gainsville. these cities would be dead without a college.

This.

College towns to me are towns where when school out of session, the town disappears into nothingness.

If you want to talk actual college towns, I much enjoyed Blacksburg (Va Tech). It's very clean and has good amount of college things to do right around campus.

Do you have dental problems? That could be why you're more comfortable in Gumpville.

shite how much time do you have,

ATL - GTech, much better city
SMU - Dallas, much better city
should I keep going....

lived in BR 20 plus years and other than "the people" the city physically is ugly and it's location is poor relative to humidity, climate, bugs,etc...

Yeah. I think large cities should automatically be eliminated from the conversation. A college town is a town that is dependent economically mostly on the college, and doesn't have much going for it outside of the college.

Athens in a much better college town than Baton Rouge. No question about it.
As far as a city, then Baton Rouge is up there. But you said College Towns.
