Free agency with the portal.

Shady NIL deals with scumbag injury lawyers leading the charge.

Kids going to the highest bidder, even in the middle of their college careers.

Exorbitant ticket prices and surcharges to watch a bunch of mercenaries with no real affinity for the jersey or the school.

No thanks to all of this. You may love it, and that's your right. If you love it, and you want to do whatever it takes to win, that's fine. I get it.

But this is not college football. It's something else.

Its semi pro football with less contractual obligations. Its is not sustainable.

Unless the rules are rolled back, college football is doomed.

This is new information; hadn't seen such analysis before. Thanks for the insight.

You can either accept it and move on or not and stop watching. There is nothing that is going to change it.

Give it time for adjustments to be made and dust settle. That portal cuts both ways, last time I looked there was over 600 kids in it with no declared destination. Kids now without scholarships. Not everyone in the portal is on the talent level of like Ricks. IMO changes, over sight, parameters will eventually get put in place for NIL, portal, and ESD. NCAA just slow as shite. Anyone looking at how it is now on those three issues and can’t see the downside is not very smart and not looking out for the student athlete as a whole.

Not sure on how all the NIL works but can only imagine some players making big bank while others on the same team earn nothing.

Right.
Its college football, but its not amateur athletics. And amateur athletics was the heart of college football as we have always known it. And the allegiance to a school was what created the glue for the fanbase. Under the new regime, the allegiance is to a contract and money. So, the fans are left to support mercenaries.
NIL and a lack of leadership from the colleges and the NCAA cooked the golden goose. It didn't have to be this way. Reform is still possible, but quick action is necessary.

I’m not that pessimistic as of now, but I agree it’s heading in the wrong direction. We gotta see how what new rules are put in place in the next couple years. I gotta believe that we adapt in some way, but its tough to watch at the moment. Bowl season is dead unfortunately, rough times in the near future until the powers that be figure it out.
The boomers are jumping ship on college football by the day, hopefully our generation can ride out the changing times. Just gotta be open minded about it I guess.

We've been heading in this direction for a couple of decades. LSU is just as guilty as anyone else. We (LSU fans) are excited when we give our coaches record salaries. We love expanding the stadium. This quit being an amatuer sport a long time ago. Most people just didn't pay attention. It was a business when LSU made Saban the first coach to break the $2,000,000 mark almost 20 years ago. Expectations are elevated beyond any norms b/c the fans will spend the money to fund it. Players have been getting paid under the table for a very long time. Now we can just see it out in the open.

The #1 thing I don't care for is being able to transfer within the conference. I think players should be able to transfer but transferring to your rival and playing against them the following year shouldn't be allowed.

Far less enjoyable. I would not spend money on tickets to see any of it. So much for the fans' experience.

The portal is a freakin joke but I don't think NIL is that big of a deal

Having players be able to just jump ship and go wherever is just insane

If the NCAA was not so greedy in the first place they are the root cause. They should have had a policy in place years ago for the players. Mark Emmert is a joke the organization is run by old age men who are behind time. Now look what you have a free for all, auctions, bribery and the worst has yet to come.

It would be a lot more fun if we didn’t suck. Stick with it, we will be good again

I think this is a very chicken little perspective. I believe you will see NCAA make changes it may take some time, but I think what is happening in the bowl games will speed up some changes. Here are some thoughts.

1. Normal bowl games don’t count against redshirt, playoffs do.

2. 1 time transfer rule does not apply to intraconference transfer.

3. All NIL deals must be reported to school and schools must report all NIL deals quarterly to NCAA and to be made public. Any exchange of money that doesn’t go through the school has consequences potentially for either the school or the player or both.

4. Early signing day is moved to July 1 or removed all together.

5. Transfer portal doesn’t open until December 15 ( or a date after conference champs) and closes before week 0 of the next season.

6. Tampering by schools of student athletes out side of the portal period and outside of a player entered in the portal will result in reduced scholarships.

Not all of these rule changes are winners, but I think each of them addresses different issues that are going on. Likely if they introduce 3-4 of these then the majority of the problems in college football will be quelled.
