Justin Fields granted a waiver and is immediately eligible to play.

LINK

The basis of the appeal was that a baseball player who was almost immediately kicked out of school called him a racist slur.

Now that he has the waiver: "My overall experience at UGA was fully consistent with UGA's commitment to diversity. My sister is a softball player at UGA...A part of me will always be a Georgia Bulldogs fan."

Don't get too used to these recruits. If many don't play immediately, they will be gone. Who knows, maybe Sopsher will play at LSU someday after all.

How would that be the same as what happened in this case?

I’m not so sure that’s the case. Nobody really knows what happened.

What a crock of shite. So now athletes know if they don’t play immediately, just say someone is racist and they’ll get to transfer

What do you think happened?

His attorney cited the racist incident and then says "there's more" but I kind of doubt it was meaningful or else he would have said it to the reporter to garner public sympathy for Fields and to pressure the NCAA.

We know about the racist incident. We know that Fields lost out the battle with Fromm and that Fromm is unlikely to leave early for the NFL. Maybe there is more.

But the simplest answer is that whole thing is a farce, especially since his sister enrolled after the incident that made it impossible for Fields to attend UGA anymore occurred.

He transferred because he lost the QB competition. Okay, cool. Sit out your year and have 3 to play 3. But, nah, the rules don't apply to Justin. And now the precedent is set.

I mean They could tighten up the rule, but it’s not like he had didn’t have an actual incident.

I dont Think UGA kicked their best hitter of the baseball team so Fields could transfer.

Obviously this isn’t why he transfered, but it enough to meet the letter of the Law even if it’s not the spirit of it.

He probably didn’t give a frick about the incident. He used this as an excuse to play immediately. I can’t say I blame him for it, I would have done the same. The NCAA however can’t let CFB become free agency, which basically is what it’s becoming.

Maryland staff killed a player...can they all transfer? Or is racism worse than death?

If coaches can coach immediately, why can’t players play? They aren’t getting paid

I understand that. The reason why i said it’s likely more to it is because his sister still attends the university. If he is my kid and is offended like that, he is gone the day it happens as well as his sister. That’s why I think there’s more to it.

I get what you are saying but allowing open transfers would be total mayhem.

Say you are Tulane and you get a diamond in the rough at RB who blows up as a sophomore and runs for 1500 yards and 15 TDs. With open transfers, that kid can now go to Bama or LSU or Clemson or whoever without a second thought.

How are teams supposed to compete if their best players can leave at the first sign of success?

On the flip side, how is a team like LSU supposed to have depth if every 4 star can transfer the second they don't win the starting job.

Open transfers just isn't a viable plan. At least not without completely changing College football as we know it.

This is working throughout the country in many ways. This will bring the college free agency to life. If you are not starting, just get a few buddies together to corroborate your story that someone called to a racial slur and you are on your way. This country is falling apart baws

I think players should have more freedom to leave a program. Let's face it, coaches come and go as they please, so why not players? Don't give me they get a free education argument because we all know the top players are recruited to win football games, period! Coaches and schools could care less about a player's education, as long as he's eligible and helping the team win. The product being sold are the players, period! Players go to certain schools to play for a particular coach that they have built a relationship with and trust. If coaches can lie to these players and get them to sign and then jump ship, the players should also be given the same option!
