And finished 2-9 the following season.

why is it a problem? because you're an SLU fan?
In a sense, yes.
Arkansas... good point, but they're fans consider us as their biggest rival. To them, it is equal to in-state. To us, not quite yet.
Notre Dame? they have like 20 teams that consider them their #1 rival. NTM, ND has their own network of national fans from their own NBC network.
I see it as a problem because what happens if/when LSU goes through a 90's period. Without the "Big" in-state rival, what game does LSU have to look forward to? For that reason, I like promoting new and possibly future in-state rivalries.

Dude, it was a recruiting class. Give a year or so...

You can put as much talent on that team as you want, but as long as BJ Young is the QB, they are fricked.

Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss. Even if LSU sucked, those games would still be more intense rivalries than anything an in-state team could provide. The reason LSU has no in-state rival is because there are no other Universities that can compete on a regular basis. If LSU went 2-9 through 11 football games, playing Tulane for the chance to go 3-9 wouldn't make anyone excited.

I guess this one expects LSU to lose 2 out of 3 to State

I can't see the SEC getting 10 teams in no matter what

I agree with you. I think we get 8 teams this year.

I'm thinking 8 with LSU being the 8th, possibly a ninth if Ole Miss has a good weekend

I could see 9 if Georgia manages to stay above .500.

The UGA above .500 thing is interesting. I hope we get 9 if UGA is eligible for an at large bid, but I fear we may only get 8 regardless. But I guess if we sweep this weekend they can't leave us out. There is no argument that the SEC is the premier conference but there is a national backlash of sorts due to this and I think it may be exacerbated this year by the fact that there are 3 teams worthy of being national seeds.

It would take a perfect storm of things to happen but you can't ignore that finish if it were to happen. There would be more than deserving teams...but I'm sure the committee would take some less deserving team simply because they wouldnt want to put almost the entire SEC in and hear the whiners.

This is what I've been thinking and baseball america agrees.
Even if Ole Miss and LSU both lose 2/3 this weekend they very well could be in the tournament. Giving the SEC 9 teams (UGA missing out).

This is what I am saying. We all know that the "bubble" SEC teams that don't make it every year are better than some teams that do get at large bids, but this is the reality of the current NCAA baseball landscape. They are forcing geography into the equation when it really has no place in a decision regarding the best, most deserving teams.

I have about 7 people who play for Vanderbilt in my summer school class right now. They all left this morning and I let them know they MUST sweep this weekend.

It could happen, but if we win 2/3 this weekend and have an RPI around 25 I think we would get in. One thing this selection committee chairman has shown the past 2 years is that the value RPI very highly. That, and the pool of at large teams this year really isn't all that great.

I don't disagree with you. We will see soon enough. I just hate to think that we are hoping to be the 8th or 9th SEC team in the NCAA tournament. Sad.
