Running it only 26 times in back to back situations over the entire 2024 season seems way waaay too low.

my first thought as well - perhaps he ruled out all 'obvious' run play situation like running out the clock, needing less than a yard for 1st down, setting up position for field goal, etc.

To be fair. If its 1st and 10 and you run the ball and get stuffed or lose yards its not the best idea to run it again. Now running the ball a second time after a successful 3+ yd run I agree with us needing to do that more but we have gone backwards or gone for 0-1 yds a decent amount and its not the best idea to run it again after that.

Pretty sure he means there was 26 instances when we ran the ball on back to back plays.

That's because Sloan is not a very good "play caller". He doesn't set up plays at all. As an offensive play caller, you have to think about the plays that you want to run 2 or 3 plays ahead of time, then set up those plays accordingly.

Tigerdroppings man, I tell ya!!!

I have no clue why this university goes through coaching searches, interviews, etc, when they can just throw a dart at this board and grab some average joe sales rep from here and put up 45+ a game

Really reckless for our administration to keep throwing money away on coaching searches and contracts.

frick, they could just do live polls here during the games and run the offense off the backs of the offensive savants on this site

I think it means at least two run plays in a row.

This is simply not true. He will run the ball on 2nd down no matter the distance. He doesn’t care if it’s 2nd and 20

Sometimes I wonder where y’all come up with some of this shite.

On 2nd down, we have 27 rush attempts and 40 pass attempts. That’s 40.3% run. Our overall run% is 45.7%.

So:
1. No, we definitely do not “run the ball on 2nd down no matter the distance.”
2. In fact, we run the ball less on 2nd down than we do overall.

He’s also not considering everything with the office this year because he’s looking at it in only three games. Three games that we know we’ve been limited on the offense.
Did he bring up the number of screens thrown this year versus last year? If he didn’t, then I wouldn’t pay too much attention to what he’s saying. Last season Kelly was frustrated because they couldn’t run a screen game. There are a lot more screens thrown this season.

We can’t run block because most of our lineman play too high and lose leverage immediately on running plays.
Not because we don’t run the ball enough.

Those screens that they’ve been running or running plays. That’s all we heard about in 2019. How the screen game is an extension of the run game. The Saints did the same thing in 2010.
With that, if you watched the podcast of Richard Dickson breaking down what went wrong on some run plays, go take a lesson. It’s not just about playing high. It’s also about positioning, hand placement, etc. He ripped into Davis and sharp.
This is about coaching more than anything.
