No he didn't the ref changed his answer! Nuss called him on it but ref should not have said anything

In that situation, do you think that Kiffin would have been able to correct the mistake immediately if the player didn’t correct himself?

Dart sounds only semi-conscious in that interview.

if by "immediately", you mean "after the ref leaned back to see around the player, player turned around to to also look back, then changed his mind", I agree.

don’t think that’s actually what happened

He said "that way" and pointed north, but someone behind him raised hell and he changed it quickly.

I don't think its a big deal. Nuss laughed it off.

The ref said something to Nuss like " you know what he meant"

and Nuss started laughing, it was an honest mistake. And let's be real here, we own both Endzones in our Home stadium.

I think this is more that the coaches were asked what they want to do, and the players go out there simply as a performative gesture. And the OM player mixed up where he was, and the ref knew the actual direction from Kiffin.

pretty sure he did point that way because the coach pulled him aside when he got off and they were laughing about it.

He absolutely said the wrong endzone and the head ref said the other endzone and that’s when Nuss said “But he chose that one”. Thought it was odd myself when the judge in the background was pointing the other way as well.

At the college and HS level they double check with the sideline and Lane was screaming for the South endzone.

The dude 38 came to the sidelines and told Kiffin he got confused, I don't know what the rules are but he said and pointed to the Wrong Endzone! Nuss caught it and immediately said he pointed the other way then the referee looked at Nuss like "you know what he meant "? Yes Nuss laughed it off but what was he supposed to do cry? I don't understand it at all but if they have a rule about coaches can override or coin flip just a formality? I don't know but I remember we did that years ago and I think Saban was the coach and he lost his shite! I guess maybe it's one of those Saban rule changes!

ref should've taken his first answer. kinda silly he would ask him if he was "sure". doesn't matter anyways.

OM player had just been in a war for 4 hours. Most you could ask of the guy at that moment would be to call heads or tails. I'll cut him some slack.
I'm sure the coaching staff already informed the referees of their decisions should they win or lose the toss.
