It didn't have significant impact, but what was up with the referees changing the direction that the Ole Miss player selected.

He clearly selected to go to the North EZ and then the referees said "No, you don't want to do that" and pointed the the South. Nuss protested it but they just laughed him off.

What is the point of having players there if they don't make the choices?

Thanks for the great image showing the back refs Nutriaitch!

The Ole Miss player did initially point to the NEZ but he quickly changed to the SEZ recognizing his faux pas. Nuss jokingly said he pointed to the NEZ first. Everybody was fine with it.

the Ole Miss player absolutely pointed to the North End Zone first.
the officials in background pointed to South End Zone.

mic wasn't on, so you couldn't hear what was being said though.

this did not happen. The ole miss captain pointed the wrong way to the student section and quickly pointed the opposite way. Nuss was joking and said the he picked that first. The ref didn’t say anything to persuade his decision.

You could hear Nuss saying that OM chose the north endzone.

The player caught his own mistake. The ref agreed with him after he caught his own mistake. Nuss jokingly said no he chose that side *pointing towards student section*

according to radio the ref asked are you sure? (which is now standard in the SEC), then the ref behind the players then said that it not what Coach Kiffin said & pointed in to the South End Zone and the player agreed

The Ole Miss player signaled the wrong direction initially, then immediately changed it. Nu's even joked with him afterward "No. You said that way."

It was all a joke. OM player corrected his statement and Nuss had fun with him about it suggesting that he stick with his first choice which would have been a mistake.

Another reason why deferring in most cases gives you the opportunity to gauge what you need to do to win.

Mic wasn’t on? I heard him say that way and point to the North Endzone. I remember this because I laughed and said to myself, that moron just fricked up!

Maybe you are allowed to change your mind if it is instantaneous, but he screwed up initially.

Player Points to north, can't hear what ref says, but leans over to look past player

THEN the player changes to south

ESPN Broadcast

Ole Miss player 100% points North.
Officials in background point south and even shake their head no while pointing south
