Did anybody ask him if would consider coaching football too?
Jay has said many times that he was a running back in high school being coached by his father, a legendary high school football and track coach. Maybe he also has a few more carries in him to get our rushing attack back on track?

Coaches Committee Meeting baseball

Did they have to get permission from the governor to have this meeting?

Fontenot up 99mph.
wow, I know this is said every offseason but I do feel like this Jay’s deepest staff since he been at LSU. A rotation of Evans, Moore, Schmidt and possibly Noot looks promising this spring.

When asked a question about what his thoughts on Grant Fontenot's development, he said that he had to convince Grant to come back as he could have gotten drafted had he decided to go pro despite only throwing 6 innings all season. Jay said that he will be a major contributor to this staff but it's not yet determined exactly what his role would be and if he would close or be longer relief.

Why did we use a guy throwing 99mph so rarely? As a 5th year senior, it will be great to see Grant Fontenot finally get real innings.

There were rumors on the board that in his previous stint on the team he had fallen into the coaching staff's doghouse. Not exactly sure what limited his development last year, but undoubtedly he could have contributed IMO.

Agree. Looking forward to seeing him up on the bump and throwing gas in meaningful situations his final season here.

Yeah just think of how good the 2025 team could have been

Fontenot’s FB was 95-96 last year iirc. He had a bad outing or 2 at the beginning of the season which set him back. He was solid in his limited appearances towards the back end of conference schedule and postseason.

I asked Jay about Fontenot because he really caught my attention this fall. He has looked good in every outing and there was one inning that could have been the most dominant inning I saw this fall.

It is rare for a fifth year senior to finally come into his own by we might have that situation here. It could be development or it could be a maturity thing or perhaps something else but he looks ready to make an impact this year. Fontenot, Guidry and Sheerin as closers is nasty. If Paz doesn't work out in the rotation he would be great here as well.

His comment about Cooper Moore perhaps having the best fall of all the pitchers caught me by surprise. Moore has looked good but it really didn't jump out at me. I hang out by the first base dugout usually so I don't get to see the movement on the pitches, so I don't know what he has there.

Cooper Williams will be in the mix as a starter this spring for sure. Jay mentioned Cooper Moore having the best fall out of the pitchers but I would make the argument that it has been Cooper Williams. Really like what he can become. Possibly follow in the footsteps of recent LSU leftys in Griffin Herring and Kade Anderson. (Don't misunderstand me for saying he WILL be as good or better, just saying he can be a big contributor with the potential to get to that level)

Agreed. I think Jay would like a lefty starter in the weekend rotation and Williams is that guy,

Williams is definitely a guy I could see in the Sunday starter role but If that doesn’t work I think him and Cowan are going to be the first two out of the pen for long relief to help with the piggybacks.
